Rogue Investigations Ensnare Wisconsin Conservatives
Scott Walker is a survivor. He won three elections in four years in the birthplace of progressivism, Wisconsin. But his supporters haven’t been so lucky because the Left plays exceptionally dirty. David French over at National Review published an outstanding investigative report on the tactics of intimidation used by Wisconsin prosecutors to silence conservatives. He recounts several stories of Walker supporters waking up in the early morning to the battering rams of police conducting raids as part of “John Doe” investigations of supposed political corruption and illegal coordination. Police ransacked houses and confiscated family belongings, including their children’s computers. The victims of these raids were not proven guilty of any crime, but were told to keep silent about the raids — leaving only the neighborhood wondering what the family had done wrong. It seems the only illegal collusion was between Democrat prosecutors and judges.
Fortunately, a case involving the investigations is headed to the U.S. Supreme Court. French writes this “could grant review on a federal lawsuit brought by Wisconsin political activist Eric O'Keefe and the Wisconsin Club for Growth, the first conservatives to challenge the investigations head-on. If the Court grants review, it could not only halt the investigations but also begin the process of holding accountable those public officials who have so abused their powers.” In another post, French explains the Left’s rationale: “[T]o the radical left, lawful conservative victories are inherently illegitimate, and they must be overturned by any means necessary — even if that means a battering ram in the night.” He’s absolutely right, and, while what’s been done can never be undone, we hope justice will finally be served.
