Coronavirus: An American Threat

Conservatives have always been the party of preparation, liberals the ideologues of panic.

Ask yourself: What would you consider to be a reasonable and righteous response to a global pandemic like the one announced by the World Health Organization?

Contrary to hoards of consumers stashing away two-ply toilet paper, most would say an appropriate response is metered, well-informed, considerate and, most importantly, calm.

Such was the address made by President Donald Trump during an emergency message in response to what is now a coronavirus crisis. With a level disposition and a straightforward delivery, our commander-in-chief announced his swift action to combat the outbreak while also offering much-needed reassurance about the realities we face. A known germaphobe, our POTUS provided us with the appropriate details so that many of us can take guard and rest easy at night.

If there were a responsible response to this mayhem, this is it. But for Democrats, no crisis goes to waste. Not even this one.

So what did Trump do wrong now, you ask?

Not only is mainstream media anxiously counting the number of times President Trump shakes hands, they’re also politicizing the passage of a multibillion-dollar coronavirus bill as the GOP requires language in the bill that excludes federal funds being used for abortion services.

While the virus moves, lawmakers are at a standstill.

Over abortion.

It appears the GOP is 20 steps ahead of Democrats as we move into the unknown. Republicans and conservatives understand that this is no time to take advantage of fearful Americans. But Democrats will suggest that it is the GOP that is holding back appropriate treatment for the most vulnerable. (If this were true, then wouldn’t federal abortion funding be a worthy sacrifice?)

But what makes this crisis worse isn’t just the misinformation and lagging lawmakers. It’s also a doomsday mindset that plagues so many.

If we could recategorize our “two-party” system into two personality types, liberals would easily fall under “pessimistic.” For these types, everyday life is “doom and gloom,” as nothing seems to quell their nonstop cries and ongoing sadness about climate change, the 1%, student loans, and now coronavirus.

On the contrary, we conservatives tend to be optimistic. We wave the banner of prosperity through hard work, an honest living, temperance in our daily lives, righteous legislation and — for many of us — prayer and faith in our Lord.

While no man knows what is to come in light of this coronavirus, God does. He is ahead of the world in many ways and the blood of His Son is the remedy that resolves all fear and suffering. While atheists wail in the streets for a physical cure and worldly longevity, God-fearing people across the globe pray for healing and guidance, and for our promised place in heaven. For us, life goes on.

Right now, we are faced with a decision (which may seem inverted to some, but stay with me). We can choose death by attaching ourselves to a worldly existence away from God, or we can choose everlasting life by keeping our Lord and Savior close and preparing ourselves beyond pandemic — for His promised return.

P. S. Want to know something that works better than hand sanitizer and hysteria? Hand washing (with actual soap) and prayer.
