‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris Is MIA
It’s been nearly two weeks since Biden put Harris in charge of dealing with the border crisis, and she hasn’t even held a press conference.
As the Joe Biden-induced illegal immigration crisis on the U.S. southern border has continued to surge without any apparent abatement, and after nearly two weeks since being dubbed the “border czar,” Kamala Harris has yet to visit the border or even hold a press conference. So, the question is, why is Harris missing in action on the border?
When Biden first tapped Harris to lead his administration’s effort to tackle the border crisis, he first blamed Donald Trump. “So, this new surge we’re dealing with now started with the last administration,” he asserted, “but it’s our responsibility to deal with it humanely and to stop what’s happening. And so, this increase has been consequential, but the vice president has agreed … to lead our diplomatic effort and work with those nations to accept … the returnees, and enhance migration enforcement at their borders.”
However, the Biden-Harris administration quickly sought to “clarify” her role. As the Associated Press reported, “Harris won’t be on the ground at the Southwest border anytime soon as she leads efforts to address a rise in migrants trying to enter the country. Harris has no plans to visit the U.S.-Mexico border region ‘in the near future,’ spokeswoman Symone Sanders said Friday.” Sanders added, “You can expect she will be speaking with leaders from the region in the near future.”
How are these engagements with foreign regional leaders progressing? Well, as of the end of last week, Harris has not established any. Nothing says urgency like putting off addressing an issue for weeks. Evidently, Harris is too busy hobnobbing among the Washington establishment to be bothered with taking a trip to assess the border crisis, let alone finding the time to update the American public on how she’s progressing in bringing this humanitarian crisis to a swift resolution.
It’s obvious, of course, that Harris’s refusal to go down to the border has everything to do with the administration’s continued downplaying of the crisis. The last thing Harris wants is any pictures of her associated with this debacle. This also explains why a group of Republican lawmakers who recently visited the overcrowded migrant facilities were instructed by administration officials to delete the photos they had taken.
Apparently, Biden and Harris believe that simply spinning political narratives that have little relationship to the truth and facts is how leadership is done, as this has increasingly become the administration’s most recognizable modus operandi.
Meanwhile, an actual leader, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, has taken action via his recently launched Operation Lone Star to address the massive criminal elements at play that are fueling and exploiting the border crisis with human trafficking. Abbott sent a letter to Harris last week admonishing her to get busy securing the border. “Americans deserve to know what the administration is doing to get answers to these questions and to go after human traffickers,” Abbott wrote. “I implore the Biden administration to take swift action to secure the border, crack down on human trafficking, and prevent more children from being trafficked and abused.”
The problem is, Texas is not Washington, and apparently Harris just can’t be bothered.
