Fake news from the Leftmedia is a daily occurrence, but retractions are rare. Such a blue moon came over the weekend — when it was sure to get less attention — as The Washington Post, The New York Times, and NBC News retracted elements of their anonymously sourced coverage of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani after his apartment was raided by the FBI. Even the retractions, however, were backhanded and reinforced The Narrative™.

All three corrections were variations on a theme. Each media outlet had erroneously reported that Giuliani received a warning from the FBI that he and others were targets of a Russian disinformation campaign. “Mr. Giuliani did not receive such a so-called defensive briefing,” said the Times in its correction. NBC News explained that a second anonymous source informed the network that “the briefing was only prepared for Giuliani and not delivered to him, in part over concerns it might complicate the criminal investigation of Giuliani.”

In explaining its own correction, the Post said, “The story is focused on official concern that Rudolph Giuliani and One America News risked becoming part of Russian influence operations targeting the 2020 election. The incorrect detail removed from the story was the assertion that the FBI had briefed Giuliani and OAN about those concerns — it is now believed the bureau did not do so.”

In other words, the big takeaway from all three outlets is that the thrust of their stories is still true: Giuliani was unwittingly part of a Russian disinformation campaign; the FBI just didn’t tell him. Notice how NBC still made sure that even the correction mentions the “criminal investigation.”

This highlights two greater truths. First, Team Trump’s supposed “collusion” with Russia was the tired and false refrain every leftist sang from late 2016 all the way through the first impeachment sham over Donald Trump’s phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Leftists are reviving that conspiracy theory with the investigation of Giuliani because they just can’t let go of the BIG Lie or their Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Second, the real collusion is between the Leftmedia and the Democrat Party. Some of the supposed “Russian disinformation” Giuliani is allegedly guilty of peddling was about Hunter Biden’s laptop. Yet the story about the laptop was not disinformation from Russia or elsewhere. Even so, Democrats used their plants in the deep state to strategically leak misinformation, while their allies in the Leftmedia and Big Tech colluded to suppress other unfavorable information just before the election, helping pave the way for Joe Biden’s victory.

As for the Leftmedia reporting on false leaked information, the Wall Street Journal editorial board argues, “The Post, Times and NBC ought to be furious for being misled, if that’s what happened, and should expose who did the misleading.”

They ought to be furious, but they’re not because this is all part of the game they’re playing too. Indeed, these “corrections” only highlight just how very corrupt this whole cabal really is.

Update 5/4: As Gary Bauer notes, “Giuliani is the third Trump attorney the federal government has investigated. Last week, the FBI also raided the home of Victoria Toensing and her husband Joseph diGenova.” Clearly, this is a “GET TRUMP” witch hunt.

And Giuliani himself agrees with the Trump Derangement Syndrome framing we mentioned yesterday. “They are beyond the ability to control their rational thinking or their decency, and they have a serious, serious ethical issue, driven by Trump derangement syndrome,” Giuliani said. “They are trying to frame me.”
