Biden Gaslights With Gas and Other Lies
The president seems utterly incapable of telling the truth, whether about himself or his policies.
Presidents don’t normally get behind the wheel of a car, out of concern for both their time and their safety. Presidents also don’t normally drag race — in convertibles, no less, especially not cognitively challenged 79-year-old presidents. And if there wasn’t video proof of Joe Biden hitting 118 mph in his gas-guzzling ‘67 Corvette in just such a drag race, we wouldn’t believe him either. Why? Because he’s a habitual liar.
We have a list of new ones to cover, but, speaking of gas-powered cars, we’ll start with Biden’s latest lie on gas prices: “Today, the most common price for gas in America is $3.39, down from over $5 when I took office.”
As the obnoxious censors at Facebook would say, “Independent third-party fact-checkers have determined this information is false.” On the day Biden was inaugurated, gas was $2.39 a gallon. We’re not sure where he got that “most common price” metric, but AAA says the national average today is $3.76.
Perhaps the $5 claim was just another addled Biden gaffe, but even so, his intention was to deceive people about his own record on gas prices.
Earlier this week, he asserted: “Gas prices have decreased for 2 weeks, and are down by more than $1.20 since their June peak. That’s saving American families with two cars about $130 per month on average.” We’d also qualify that as a lie because of the following numbers:
The average driver, according to the Federal Highway Administration, travels roughly 13,000 miles per year (obviously, that can vary greatly by state). Let’s say you drive a pickup truck, one of the more commonly owned vehicles in the nation. And let’s say you get an average of 16 miles per gallon. You’ll need 812 gallons of gas in a year. At Donald Trump’s $2.39 a gallon, that would cost you $1,940. At Joe Biden’s current $3.76, that would be $3,053. At Biden’s high-price mark of $5.02, that would have been $4,076.
Yet he’s bragging about saving you money. Either that or he and his team are telling you to go buy an electric vehicle.
But wait; there’s more. “Because of the action we’ve taken,” Biden added, “gas prices are declining.” Again, that’s totally false. That’s an implied boast about having endangered our national security by depleting the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in a flagrantly political act meant to offset his plummeting poll numbers. The truth is that release had a very small effect on prices, and most of Biden’s policies from Day One in the Oval Office have hampered domestic oil production and driven up prices.
Gas lies aren’t the only way Biden is gaslighting.
“The American people are seeing the benefits of this economy that works for them,” he said. “Families have more net worth today than they did before the pandemic.”
The Federal Reserve says net worth has largely recovered to pre-pandemic levels, but there are caveats big enough to drive a speeding Corvette through. GDP fell in the first two quarters before showing a bit of false hope in yesterday’s report. The Dow Jones fell about 20% from its January 4 closing high before a bit of a recovery in recent weeks. A lot of net worth is in real estate, and prices collapsed 10% in September — “much worse than expected” — thanks to the efforts of the Federal Reserve to combat inflation.
Ah, inflation. Did we mention that inflation, caused by Joe Biden’s spendthrift policies, has reduced the true value of your net worth because everything you buy costs more? So if your net worth is the same number of dollars as before the pandemic, congratulations — a conservative estimate is that Biden has robbed you of more than 13% of your worth.
“The price of inflation is down,” he insisted. “Real incomes are up.” Wrong and wrong. The rate of acceleration of inflation might have tapered somewhat, but wages — real income — have not kept up.
“When I took office,” Biden claimed, “the economy was in ruins.” False. Government shutdowns did utterly wreck the economy in early 2020, but by the time Biden was elected, the V-shaped recovery was well underway. He likes to cherry-pick jobs numbers as proof, accusing Trump of being the first president since Herbert Hoover to lose jobs during his presidency, while spiking the football over all the ones Biden has created. That’s all an accident of timing, as the same jobs lost under Trump were regained as things reopened.
Aside from lying about his party’s weakest and most endangering issue, the economy, Biden can’t even tell the truth about basic autobiographical stuff. You’ve heard his yarns about how his first wife and daughter died in a car accident, his pathetic boasts about his IQ, his plagiarism, or how he did this or that thing that he did not, in fact, do.
Well, yesterday, Biden claimed that he “gave up a starting job on a football team in Delaware” because he fell in love with his first wife. His status on that football team is murky at best, though it’s almost certain that his tale is a tall one.
Basically, the story here is that you can’t trust a word that comes out of Joe Biden’s mouth. He tells lies — big ones and little ones — about himself and pretty much everything else. And yet the corrupt media lets him lie with impunity. Of course, that’s why we’re here.
