Biden Turns 80 Amid ‘24 Speculation

The oldest president ever is still being cagey about his prospects for running again in 2024.

Sunday is President Joe Biden’s birthday, and it’s a historic moment. No president has ever celebrated his 80th birthday while serving in the White House. Biden already holds the record for being the oldest person, 78, ever to become president — a record that smashed to smithereens the previous mark held by Donald Trump, who was a spry 70 when he took office.

Biden, of course, had already showed signs of diminished mental capacity before taking office. Journalists who are supposed to inform the public instead colluded with Democrats to hide this from low-information voters during his 2020 presidential campaign, during which he was kept from prying eyes and rolled out only for carefully managed, media-friendly events.

Many people who voted for Biden can no longer deny that he seems less than fit for the office he now holds. High-ranking Democrats and even some of his inner circle — speaking anonymously, of course — believe that Biden appears addled and out of sorts. And that’s putting it kindly.

The White House has already noted that Sunday’s birthday will be a low-key affair. The spin is that the Bidens aren’t big on celebrating birthdays, but the reality is that no one wants to call attention to the number EIGHTY, as it will surely put focus on Biden’s mental health. The last thing the White House wants is speculation about Biden’s fitness for office as he mulls a second term.

Biden’s plans for a 2024 run have led to a great deal of speculation almost since he took office. Of course, he and his handlers want to keep alive the idea of a second term to avoid being treated like a lame duck for the rest of this term. But there’s legitimate concern that he may not have the cognitive ability or physical stamina to make it through the first four years, let alone a second four that would make him 86 years old by the time he leaves office. This assumes, of course, that Biden would win reelection.

The Swamp is alive with speculation about what Biden will or won’t do. Some say he’s likely to run, feeling energized by the muted Republican performance in the midterms. He may also feel a personal desire to run now that Trump has announced his candidacy for 2024. There’s no love lost between the two political rivals, and the appeal of a rematch may be too much to pass up.

Our own Mark Alexander is on record saying Biden will not run in ‘24.

If Biden were to leave office before the end of his first term, Vice President Kamala Harris would become president. This is an unsettling thought for many Democrats, as Harris is even less popular than Biden and perhaps even less fit for the task. Such a scenario would likely hand the White House to the Republicans in 2024. But this, too, assumes that Harris remains as VP.

Washington insider Douglas MacKinnon, who worked for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, introduced an idea that would solve the Harris problem and put the Democrats in a comfortable position to defend a Biden-less ticket in 2024.

According to MacKinnon, the administration could replace Harris with California Governor Gavin Newsom. After Newsom assumes the vice presidency, Biden could resign and leave Newsom in office to face a 2024 presidential campaign from a position of entrenched power.

As for Newsom, many Americans realize that his state of California may be the worst-run in the nation, but it’s the bluest of bastions in the Democrat electoral fortress. Newsom was elected in 2018, and despite having been subject to a recall election last year, he easily prevailed and was reelected last week by a wide margin. He is already considered a potential 2024 presidential candidate.

All this seems like an outlandish strategy for keeping the White House, but these are the Democrats, and there are no precedents for the state of political affairs in America today.

Will our 80-year-old president run again in 2024? C'mon, man!
