When does laziness become derelictions of duty? Consider the following exchange between Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta at a Senate hearing regarding the attacks in Benghazi that left four Americans dead. While you read it, remember that: a) President Obama is Commander-in-Chief, and b) the very next day, he attended a fund-raiser in Las Vegas. Ayotte: So [the president] didn't ask you what ability we had in the area [of Benghazi] and what we could do? Panetta: No I think, I mean, he relied on both myself as Secretary and and General Dempsey's capabilities. He knows generally what we've deployed into the region, we've presented that to him in other briefings. So he knew vernally what was deployed out there, but as to specifics about time etc. etc., no he left that up to us.

Maybe it's just me, but the older I get, the less patience I have for steaming loads of b.s. being presented as either reasonable, or novel, arguments. Few things strain my patience more than the latest bit surrounding the so-called "grand compromise" regarding illegal aliens. First, note the term "illegal aliens," by far the most accurate description of those people at the center of this discussion -- which is why there has been an unrelenting effort by the American left and their useful idiots in the media to portray that phrase as tantamount to nativist, jingoistic xenophobia, with a little bigotry tossed in for good measure. They prefer the Orwellian term, "undocumented immigrant," as if people who knowingly broke the law to enter this country are nothing more than victims of some bureaucratic snafu that requires nothing more than a quick paperwork fix, along with a simple adjustment -- of the entire American public's psyche. If you believe that nonsense, you're a progressive -- or an illegal alien.

So I'm reading the Peggy Noonan, George Will and other conservative writers pitching the idea that Obama and the rest of his Marxist/socialist bunch have overplayed their hands, and it's just a matter of time until conservatism comes roaring back. Exhibit A is the Lance Armstrong/Oprah Winfrey confession-fest. A couple of multimillionaires getting down and dirty on Oprah's OWN TV network, complete with a tears-on-cue bit from the bicyclist, and a lot of pre-show promotion by the "Queen of Daytime TV" about how Lance was going "bring it." The only thing the Big O was looking for Lance to "bring" was decent TV ratings for her foundering network. Close, but no cigar. The numbers were impressive, but Lance the Liar finished second to Oprah's interview with deceased singer Whitney Houston's family members. One thing is certain: America has a fascination with drug addicts. And despite the semi-meager numbers, Lance was Topic A for the mainstream media.
