It's All the Tea Party's Fault
Remember "Not Me"? He was the famous invisible cartoon gremlin in the newspaper comic strip "The Family Circus." Whenever toys were left on the floor or other school-age disasters struck, the kids in the comic pointed their fingers at "Not Me." Today, "Tea Party" is the juvenile left's new "Not Me" -- an all-purpose scapegoat for every crime and disaster. On Thursday morning, a disturbed pilot flew a small plane into an Austin, Texas, office complex that contained an Internal Revenue Service office.

Beware of 'Comprehensive' Anything
Before envisioning dramatic change, the Roman emperor Augustus is said to have warned, "Make haste slowly." The reformer Augustus was eager for radical social transformation. But he also knew he had to deal with generations of Roman tradition and habit -- and thousands of entrenched special interests. President Obama should heed Augustus' advice before he plans any more doomed top-to-bottom change.
Biden vs. Cheney
This week, the Drudge Report gave emphasis to its lead headline that a CNN poll found 52 percent of its respondents to be opposed to the re-election of President Barack Obama with this boldface screamer: "Shock." Who is shocked? The American people are a sensible lot. Frankly, I am not shocked.

Education: Too Important for a Government Monopoly
The government-school establishment has said the same thing for decades: Education is too important to leave to the competitive market. If we really want to help our kids, we must focus more resources on the government schools. But despite this mantra, the focus is on something other than the kids. When The Washington Post asked George Parker, head of the Washington, D.C., teachers union, about the voucher program there, he said: "Parents are voting with their feet. ... As kids continue leaving the system, we will lose teachers. Our very survival depends on having kids in D.C. schools so we'll have teachers to represent."
