His Critics Have Not Blamed Him for the California Fires Yet
It has been a pretty good week for Donald Trump. The economy is growing faster than anyone on the left or in the middle or among the Never-Trumpers believed possible.

Trump Sanctions Turkey
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced yesterday that the United States was imposing sanctions on two top Turkish officials due to the continued detention of Pastor Andrew Brunson.

Catching Up
Now that the Tour de France is over, it’s time to get back to the serious business of pontificating. When confronted with the daunting task of choosing a topic, it hit me just how many significant events had occurred in just the last 10 days. The world is moving at Trump speed. So rather than delve into a single item, let’s try a quick recap.

An Immigration Election?
As the midterm elections approach, there are plenty of Republican DC elites still shaking their heads at “dumb Donald Trump.” They fear he is hurting the party. They still haven’t figured out that he knows the GOP electorate better than they do.

It’s Time for a Free Trade Agreement With Switzerland
The United States and Switzerland have a long history of dynamic economic partnership that has enhanced prosperity in both countries.

Being a Socialist Means Never Having to Say You’re Sorry

Free Valentino Dixon
“If it wasn’t for my artwork and God, there’s no way we’d be having this conversation right now.”

The Trump, GOP Economic Recovery
When I read that the economy is growing strongly, it makes me happy. But in politics, good news is not enough. You have to decide who gets credit for it.

Working for Tips
Union protestors and celebrity advocates have decided that waiters’ tips aren’t big enough.

Your Vote Counts ... but Not for the Reasons You Think
Erdogan. Hussein. Trump. Obama. What do all the above men have in common? They were all elected rulers of their nations. And the citizens of their nations (Turkey, Iraq, USA) all went to the polls to cast their votes for their choice for their highest leader.

Is Illegal Immigration Moral?
People who willfully break the immigration laws of the United States are also breaking the moral law — because they are breaking just laws.

Some Ideas to Think About
Poverty is no mystery, and it’s easily avoidable. The poverty line that the Census Bureau used in 2016 for a single person was an income of $12,486 that year.

After ‘Really Bad’ Month, GOP Midterm Fear Rises
From time to time, I’ve been catching up with a Republican strategist who is trying to help the GOP keep control of the House in this November’s midterm elections. It’s been an up-and-down ride.

NATO Isn’t for Defending Montenegro
Fox News host Tucker Carlson recently asked President Trump, “Why should my son go to Montenegro to defend it from attack?” It is a fair question — one that many Americans were asking following Trump’s performance at the NATO summit — and it deserved a better answer than the president’s musing on the “aggressive” nature of Montenegrins.

The Emmy Awards Tilt to the Left
On July 26, the News and Documentary Emmy Award nominations were announced, and PBS topped the list with 45 nominations. CBS led the broadcast networks with 31 nods, followed by CNN and HBO with 22 each, and ABC with 20.

Will Russia Back the Democrats in 2018 Midterms?
“I’m very concerned that Russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election,” President Trump tweeted last week. “Based on the fact that no President has been tougher on Russia than me, they will be pushing very hard for the Democrats. They definitely don’t want Trump!”

‘Undocumented Immigrant’ Is a Made-Up Term That Ignores the Law
The news media is reporting that an internal email at the Justice Department has reminded its lawyers that the legally correct term they should be using in their briefs is “illegal alien,” not the euphemism “undocumented immigrant.”

Our Founders Saw Freedom of the Press as a Vital National Element
The U.S. Constitution’s guarantees of important rights is a major factor in making America a great nation. The First Amendment is especially important, as it guarantees us the right to free speech, religious beliefs, and a free press, among other things.

Ginsburg’s Five-Year Plan
During an interview Sunday, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg announced her five-year plan. Asked how much longer she planned to stay on the Supreme Court, Ginsburg replied that Justice John Paul Stevens stepped down when he was 90. And since she is 85, Ginsburg said, “I have at least five more years.” Liberals are applauding.
