Are American public schools on the verge of becoming taxpayer-funded Madrassas? In 2001 the founder of the Institute on Religious and Civic Values boasted about a covert plan to conduct a "bloodless" revolution inside American public classrooms — promoting an increased emphasis on the Islamic faith. I wrote extensively about their plans to wage a stealth academic jihad in my book, "God Less America." Read the chapter titled, "One Nation Under Allah." Still, it might surprise many moms and dads at the extent of Islamic indoctrination that's infected their local public schools.
The Ululations of Radical College Crybabies
Deray McKesson, the professional agitator whose racial rabble-rousing began at tax-subsidized Teach for America, proudly unveiled his new enterprise on the Internet Thursday: A website chronicling "THE DEMANDS" of his radical brothers and sisters on college campuses across Northern America. "We recently launched http://thedemands.org which compiles the college demands from across the country," he tweeted. "Check it out." I did. Man, oh, man, are the kids "DEMAND"-y these days!
Paris Mastermind Dead
French authorities confirmed [Thursday] morning that Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the jihadist behind the Paris attacks, has been killed. He also planned the August train attack that was foiled by three Americans. I am glad Abaaoud has received justice. But neither he nor any other individual is the creator of radical Islam. The threat didn't end after Osama bin Laden was killed and it won't end with the death of Abaaoud. Jihadists are being created every day in radical mosques throughout the Middle East, Europe and, sadly, even in the U.S.
The Race to Riot on College Campuses
College campuses are again in turmoil. According to The New York Times, "Racist, sexist and anti-Semitic incidents on and near college campuses from Dartmouth to Wisconsin to Stanford this fall have provoked worries by education and civil rights leaders that such acts are on the increase." That wasn't a story in yesterday's newspaper. That was a story in the Times edition of October 31, 1988. Most campuses where these incidents occurred were noted for their liberalism. They included such bastions of feminism as Smith and Wellesley colleges, Amherst and Mount Holyoke, as well as Yale and Dartmouth and even what many regard as ground zero of liberal academia, The University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Tolerance: Now UC It, Now You Don't
America's universities used to care about critical thinking. Now they're just critical — toward conservative thinking. Last week, we talked about Carol Swain, the African-American professor under fire for suggesting that radical Islam was a threat to security. (A theory the French would now certainly support.) Turns out, she isn't the only one making waves on college campuses.
On Campus, a Freedom From Speech
Yale's president, Peter Salovey, dealt with the Crisis of the Distressing Email about Hypothetical Halloween Costumes about as you would expect from someone who has risen to eminence in today's academia. He seems to be the kind of adult who has helped produce the kind of students who are such delicate snowflakes that they melt at the mere mention of even a potential abrasion of their sensibilities.
A Scary Time for the GOP, What the Headlines Reveal
It's Friday the 13th and the GOP is afraid, very afraid. I know because The Washington Post told me so. A front page article this morning says that the party elders are hitting the "panic button" and see "doom" ahead if the leading "outsiders" — Donald Trump or Dr. Ben Carson — get the GOP nomination. Some of the insiders are so afraid that they are reportedly talking once again about drafting Mitt Romney to run again in spite of his repeated statements that he won't do so.
Swain's World
Universities are supposed to be a place to exchange ideas — not silence them. Tell that to Vanderbilt, where a hypersensitive student body is demanding the head of a conservative black professor for daring to challenge their opinion on politics. For Dr. Carol Swain, this institutionalized prejudice is nothing new. As an African-American woman, she's been threatened, protested, and verbally abused for exposing students to other views in one of academia's elite laboratories of radicalism.
Snowflakes or Fascists?
There was a much-beloved quote circulated among leftists, often attributed to Sinclair Lewis, that "when fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." In light of recent episodes of mob action on American campuses, the quote needs updating: When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in "diversity" and demanding "safe spaces."
Reality Check
Students at Yale University, a bastion of wealth and privilege, are angry because an employee at the university dared suggest that if white children want to dress up as the Disney character Mulan for Halloween, it would not be inappropriate but instead would be children dressing up as a favorite character.
The Viruses Infecting American Universities
Many American universities have become hotbeds of political correctness, racial identification politics, anti-Americanism and, increasingly, anti-Semitism. At the University of Missouri, racial grievance politics is thriving. On Monday the university's system president and the chancellor of the flagship campus were forced to resign. For what? I've read two dozen articles about the "controversy" and in all honesty haven't been able to identify anything either of them did wrong. Some students have been complaining about an atmosphere on campus that's hostile to black students. (Among the protestors is the student body president, who is black. Apparently, the atmosphere there is friendly enough toward black students for him to be elected student body president.)

University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe must wonder what he did wrong. It all began back in September when the black student government president complained that a racist drove by in a truck and allegedly called him a racial slur. Then, in September, a group of black students said that a drunken white racist shouted a slur at them, too. Ugly, of course. But in any normal world, without further evidence of the incidents, life would have gone on — occasional ugliness from ugly people is a feature of living on Earth.
Campus Commotions Show We're Raising Fragile Kids
It seems like every week there's a new horror story of political correctness run amok at some college campus. A warning not to wear culturally insensitive Halloween costumes sparked an imbroglio at Yale, which went viral over the weekend. A lecturer asked in an email, "Is there no room anymore for a child to be a little bit obnoxious ... a little bit inappropriate or provocative or, yes, offensive?"
Eighth Graders Asked to Write About Booze, Herpes and One-Night Stands
A New Jersey school district is facing scrutiny for a provocative eighth grade homework assignment that reads more like a chapter from "Fifty Shades of Gray." The boys and girls at Myron L. Powell Elementary School in Cedarville were instructed to write a "reactive response" to a given situation. They wanted to know what the students would do if they went to a party, got drunk, had sex with a stranger and then contracted herpes.
