There are many opinionated people on each side of the political spectrum, including me, but I haven't heard of any conservatives trying to muzzle leftists. Liberals on the other hand? Ha. Pope Francis has returned to Rome after a historic trip to the United States. It was a fascinating endeavor. There have been many papal visits to America in my lifetime — in fact, nearly all have been in my lifetime, the first occurring in 1965, the year before I was born. None of these, however, were so heavily marked by political-ideological battle lines among liberals and conservatives. Really, those lines have been drawn boldly on the left, with liberals eagerly claiming this pope as one of them, and many conservatives granting that concession.

Earlier this month, a 13-year-old boy in Maryland faced an assault charge after authorities say he kissed a 14-year-old classmate on a dare at school. He's being charged with second-degree assault as a juvenile. He has not, as yet, been invited to the White House. In December 2013, a 6-year-old boy in Colorado was suspended from school for kissing a girl on the hand. "It was during class," Hunter Yelton explained. "We were doing reading group, and I leaned over and kissed her on the hand. That's what happened." No White House invitation.
University of California Totalitarians Strike Again
In yet another descent into Orwellianism, on Thursday, the Regents of the University of California's Committee on Education Policy will attempt to formulate an agenda for students and faculty that amounts to nothing more than a censorship free pass by establishing a right not to be offended. The "Statement of Principles Against Intolerance" is a compendium of progressive contradictions that begins by stating the University of California (UC) "is committed to protecting its bedrock values of respect, inclusion, and academic freedom," as well as free expression and the open exchange of ideas that are "principles enshrined in our national and state Constitutions" and "part of the university's fiber."
'There Is No God but Allah'? School Accused of Islamic Indoctrination
Maury County, Tennessee, is in the heart of the Bible Belt. So it's understandable why the local church ladies got all shook up when they discovered that school children had been forced to declare, "There is no God but Allah." Seventh graders at Spring Hill Middle School spent three weeks covering Islam in a Social Studies class — enraging some parents who say the lessons crossed the line into indoctrination and proselytization. "I am not pleased that my 12-year-old was taught the Islamic conversion prayer," parent Brandee Porterfield told me.

More Campus Fascism
Is there something in the water in the Washington State University faculty lounge, or are its professors conspiring against common sense? Three faculty members, showing their contempt for free speech, threatened to punish students who disobeyed them on race, gender or immigration terminology. The Daily Caller reports that in his "Introduction to Multicultural Literature" syllabus, professor John Streamas warned white students that "to do well in this class," they must "reflect" their "grasp of history and social relations" by "deferring to the experiences of people of color." This professor once berated a student who advocated limits on illegal immigration as "just a white s—bag."
Superheroes No More
Ridiculous stories about political correctness float around the Internet like so much ocean garbage. Occasionally, one washes up on "Good Morning America" with a larger story to tell. A little girl named Laura was sent home with a note because she had brought a Wonder Woman lunchbox to school. (The website The Mary Sue first reported the story, from a post on the social media site Imgur.) In the letter addressed to Laura's parents, the school explained: "The dress code we have established requests that the children not bring violent images into the building in any fashion — on their clothing (including shoes and socks), backpacks and lunchboxes. We have defined 'violent characters' as those who solve problems using violence. Superheroes certainly fall into that category."
Back to School: Let the Left-Wing Indoctrination Begin
It's no secret that our nation's public universities want to transform American young people into a bunch of hyper-sensitive, intellectually neutered cream puffs. But now they're trying to deconstruct gender identity by parsing pronouns. Across the fruited plain, institutions of higher education are turning their taxpayer-funded fiefdoms into gender neutral zones where free thought is outlawed. I've got several incidents to share with you — so pour yourself a glass of iced tea and prepare to be dumbfounded.
Academic Fascism: Part II
Last week's column highlighted college campus absurdities and the ongoing attack on free speech and plain common sense. As parents gear up to fork over $20,000 to $60,000 for college tuition, they might benefit from knowing what greets their youngsters. Deceitful college officials, who visit high schools to recruit students and talk to parents, conceal the worst of their campus practices. Let's expose some of it.

George Orwell said, "There are some ideas so absurd that only an intellectual could believe them." If one wants to discover the truth of Orwell's statement, he need only step upon most college campuses. Faculty leaders of the University of California consider certain statements racism and feel they should not be used in class. They call it micro-aggression. To them, micro-aggressive racist statements are: "America is the land of opportunity." That is seen as perpetuating the myth of meritocracy. "There is only one race, the human race." Such a statement is seen as denying the individual as a racial/cultural being. "I believe the most qualified person should get the job." That's "racist" because it gives the impression that "people of color are given extra unfair benefits because of their race."
