Gascon’s Gangster Murders Two Cops

LA’s DA releases felony offender who kills two officers. So much for “gun control” laws.

A week ago, in “Biden and His Demos Unleashed a Record Surge in Mass Violence,” I detailed the FBI statistics on surging violent crime. That surge is irrefutably linked to the fact that, in 2020, Democrats at the national, state, and local levels willfully provoked and promoted mass lawlessness while they simultaneously demoted and defunded law enforcement capability. In fact, by the end of that year, they had cut almost almost $900 million from law enforcement budgets in major Demo-controlled urban centers. That combination resulted in a one-two sucker punch against victims of violence and those charged with protecting them.

I noted further: “The tide may slowly be turning on the Demos’ ‘soft on crime’ policies in the name of ‘racial equity.’ Even in Pelosi’s ultra-leftist San Francisco district, her woke district attorney was just resoundingly recalled, as should be LA’s leftist DA George Gascon, who is backed by billionaire socialist George Soros.”

Gascon has led the Demos’ “soft on crime” chorus against violent assailants and is now subject to a recall election.

This week, one of Gascon’s felony gang-banging thugs, an assailant with a long criminal record who was most recently arrested for drug and weapon charges, was released on probation after 20 days in jail, then murdered two police officers.

It had been illegal for the assailant to possess any weapon since his first felony conviction a decade ago. But one of Gascon’s first initiatives after being elected in 2020 was to forbid his prosecutors from filing additional weapons charges against an assailant that might result in additional prison sentencing. For that reason, the weapons charge against this latest cop-killer were dropped as part of the plea agreement. Predictably, the assailant illegally acquired another firearm, which he used to ambush and murder officers who were responding to his location after a woman reported he assaulted her.

Turns out only law-abiding citizens obey laws, and making lawful citizens helpless clearly does not make outlaws harmless. The Left’s latest opportunistic “gun control” agenda has nothing to do with protecting citizens.

Gascon’s Deputy Los Angeles DA, Shea Sanna, slammed His boss: “This was preventable. If he had just done his job and allowed his prosecutors to follow the law … the suspect would have been in custody, not on the street with a firearm.”

Former LA DA Steve Cooley, who served from 2012 to 2020, declared: “Apparently, the indulgent sentence given to this ex-con with a gun enabled him to be out when he should have been in. And when he was out, he got another gun and murdered two police officers. This is a direct result of Gascon’s policies, which required the least charges and minimal sentences. This individual who killed the officers was enabled to do so by Gascon’s policies. The murderer should’ve been sent to prison.”

LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, a strong critic of Gascon, added: “Gascon’s policies have grave consequences. Unfortunately, it’s the innocent person who pays the price. In this case, two cops are just doing their jobs. George Gascon’s self-proclaimed ‘science-driven’ reforms have eviscerated the entire architecture of our justice system and mock the oath of office he took. His reforms victimize our victims even more after the tragedies they suffered. Not even peace officers are safe from his science experiments.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was more pointed in his response: “Gascon flat out murdered those guys. Recall this piece of garbage.”

LA Board of Supervisors candidate Kevin Dalton noted that the two officers would “still be alive today if not for the policies of George Gascon” and that he “should be charged with accessory to murder x 2.”

The officers killed by Gascon’s thug, before he himself was shot dead, are Corporal Michael Parades and Officer Joseph Santana. They are the latest entries in our End of Watch memorial page to officers killed in the line of duty.

Parades was a veteran officer who began his service in 2000. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son. Santana had worked for other law enforcement agencies until retuning to work with El Monte PD. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and twin sons.

Their police commander, Capt. Ben Lowry, said: “These two heroes paid the ultimate sacrifice today. They were murdered by a coward. I’ve heard the only way to take the sting out of death is to take the love out of life, and believe me these two men were loved.”

For his part, Gascon arrogantly rebutted: “The sentence he received in the firearm case was consistent with case resolutions for this type of offense given his criminal history and the nature of the offense.” In other words, consistent with the leniency policy Gascon implemented.

George Gascon, go to hell.

I am reminded again of these words from Ronald Reagan in this week in which his would-be assassin was released: “You won’t get gun control by disarming law-abiding citizens. … There’s only one way to get real gun control: Disarm the thugs and the criminals, lock them up, and if you don’t actually throw away the key, at least lose it for a long time. … It’s a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun control laws. I happen to know this from personal experience.”
