“Dolly was special. She turned almost 100% failure into at least 200% success. She was not perfect, mind you — none of us are — but she was real close. I remember her songs back in Bozcon, Venezuela, out in the rainforest. Dad was a Lagoven oil man. He came home one evening with some green tree frogs. I was maybe five years old. I loved frogs. Dad and I sat on our hunches out in the rain, me in my drawers and T-shirt and Dad dressed in his oil rig clothes, watching little green tree frogs, having a blast. The time to block the construction of the new ballroom was in the two months and 20 days between the formal announcement and the commencement of the demolition. That was the time for Congress to demand its input, and for anyone else with a demonstrable, concrete interest to go to court and seek an injunction. The plaintiff's notion that halting construction mid-progress will mitigate an eyesore is facially absurd; a halted construction project is a mess, particularly if there is a hole in the ground that collects water and breeds mosquitoes.
