When life doesn’t go your way, you tend to replay the events that led to the outcome, wishing for one small change that might have made everything turn out differently.
For many, Charlie Kirk embodies one such hypothetical. His assassination sent shockwaves throughout the entire political landscape and sent American conservatism as we knew it into a downward spiral.
Perhaps more than many realized, Kirk bridged various factions of the Republican Party. He possessed a unique connection with young Americans, MAGA populists, and traditional establishment conservatives all at the same time. In many cases, he was President Donald Trump’s gauge of public opinion. As conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey puts it, he had a “unifying effect on the conservative movement, somehow unifying the Tucker Carlsons with the Ben Shapiros.”
In that regard, he was effectively the linchpin of the Republican Party, and his assassination let the various factions split to their own respective islands.
Suggesting that Charlie Kirk’s death alone cost the GOP a midterm victory is a gross oversimplification, but dismissing its impact is equally misguided. We don’t know what he would have accomplished over the past year. The cracks in the Trump administration were already starting to show at the time of Kirk’s passing, namely with the president having to deal with an inexplicably stagnant Congress and an army of leftist federal judges, and the midterms were already projected to be an uphill battle.
But you can’t deny that Kirk filled a role within the Republican Party no one had occupied before him, and no one has filled since. Few representatives of the grassroots conservative movement can connect so closely with the party’s top brass. That connection could have helped Republicans avoid some of the major mistakes they made over the past year. Back in the summer of 2025, Kirk warned Trump that striking Iran’s nuclear facilities would alienate young supporters who had voted for him because of his antiwar stance. Trump went ahead with the strikes anyway, and that operation snowballed into the war.
Kirk’s assassination also highlights the rising tide of political violence. Tyler Robinson absorbed so much leftist propaganda that he became an indoctrinated terrorist. Obviously, the Democrat Party condemns political violence on the surface, and I’m sure most Democrat voters in America do as well. The left side of the political aisle, however, knowingly and casually throws around extreme rhetoric, inspiring mentally deranged people to pull the trigger.
This enabling of extremists can only really be found on the Left in America. Conservatives rein in their extremists, but the Left stokes the flames. Despite what the media wants you to believe, nearly all politically charged shootings or assassination attempts in the past decade have come from the Left. Leftists also resort to rioting and aggression more often. The bullet that nicked Trump’s ear killed an innocent bystander. A deranged leftist assassinated a healthcare CEO as a “symbolic takedown” of corporate greed. Just this past week, a supporter of Abdul El-Sayed attacked a conservative influencer in Michigan, threatening to kill her.
The violence has impacted conservative leaders as well as the conservative grassroots movement. Joshua Monnington at The Federalist accurately notes, “Prominent right-wing figures continue to live under the threat of leftists attempting to inflict physical harm, while even everyday conservatives also face risks, especially in Democrat strongholds such as college campuses and large cities.”
Republicans attempting to teach and grow conservatism face threats to their personal safety and even their lives. Democrats may give the extremists a verbal slap on the wrist, but they won’t go any further since they only stand to benefit from them. In fact, many left-wingers on social media continue to celebrate the death of Charlie Kirk and mourn the near misses on President Trump’s life. This fundamental absence of any morality is a sickness on the Left. Few of them will pull the trigger, but many will cheer the assassins who do.
In Tyler Robinson’s case, he acted alone, with no one aiding or directing his nefarious deed. Though the likes of Candace Owens claim otherwise, the CIA, the FBI, TPUSA, or anyone else did not kill Charlie Kirk.
But Robinson’s actions did stem from the ideas Democrats put in his head, narratives that falsely brand Charlie Kirk a racist liar and label Donald Trump a fascist dictator. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say political violence poses the greatest threat to our nation today. Kirk was vulnerable to the spear of the violent Left. Americans must do everything it takes to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
All that to say, Charlie Kirk left a huge hole in the Republican Party and profoundly affected the conservative outlook. It may not have been as clear a year ago, but these midterms proved we need people who will unite the Right and present American conservatism in a positive light.
