There was a time when the Nobel Peace Prize meant something. Just like there was a time when words like “man” and “woman” and “justice” and “racism” and “genocide” meant something.

Alas, the Peace Prize isn’t what it used to be. These days, it’s like Madonna — a crude and cringeworthy caricature of itself. The award that once went to such diverse and worthy recipients as Teddy Roosevelt, Fridtjof Nansen, George Marshall, Martin Luther King Jr., Norman Borlaug, Andrei Sakharov, Mother Teresa, and Lech Walesa has since been bestowed upon a series of unworthy charlatans like Rigoberta Menchu, Yasser Arafat, Al Gore, and Barack Obama.

Last year, the committee did award the Peace Prize to Donald Trump in the proxy of Maria Corina Machado, but that was clearly an aberration. This year, it went to a UN apologist and a hater of Jews. As the Appropriated Press reports, “Navi Pillay, a South African-born jurist and former U.N. human rights chief whose career has spanned from defending the rights of an imprisoned Nelson Mandela to leading a panel that found that Israel committed genoci”— Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

That vile leftist projectionist rubbish about Israeli genocide tells us all we need to know, doesn’t it? It’s useful idiotry writ large, and the murdering dogs of Hamas thank its authors very much for it.

The inversion of the term “genocide,” of course, is a tried-and-true bit of linguistic sleight of hand: Accuse your enemy of precisely that of which you yourself are guilty. I say “inversion” because those who claim Israel’s defensive war against the barbaric legions of Hamas is actually a genocide are thereby promoting the destruction of the Jewish State and the genocide of the Jewish people there. Unless you think the endgame for Hamas is harmonious coexistence with the Jews of Israel — in which case I have a guarantee of free and fair elections in Philly, Chicago, Detroit, and Milwaukee I’d like to sell you.

Think about it: When has Hamas ever so much as hinted at peace with Israel? I’ll wait. Apparently, the shark-jumpers on the Nobel Committee were torn this year between Pillay, Hasan Piker, and the martyred George Floyd. And they really liked Floyd, but he didn’t the overt Jew-hatred piece they were looking for.

Pillay is an 85-year-old South African who once worked to defend the opponents of apartheid and who somehow must’ve made a calculation that the Jews of Israel are the moral equivalent of the oppressive white colonists of old South Africa. As the editors of the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page rightly opine:

Ms. Pillay served as the U.N.’s High Commissioner for human rights from 2008 to 2014 and so might be expected to know the difference between genocide and a defensive military campaign against a homicidal adversary that hid behind civilians in mosques, schools and hospitals. No such luck. In 2025 a U.N. committee chaired by Ms. Pillay issued a report claiming Israel had committed genocide in Gaza after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas massacre of 1,200 Israelis.
Her 2025 report offered no evidence of genocide or genocidal intent and ignored mountains of contrary evidence. It made the accusation anyway. But her report treated Hamas’s massacre as a quasi-justifiable response. Terrorism is peace, while defending against it is genocide. George Orwell saw this coming.

Indeed, did the United States commit genocide against the Germans and the Japanese with its devastating bombardment campaigns? It’s an absurd question, of course, but how does a Gazan genocide work when you go out of your way to warn noncombatants before you strike, and when you risk your own lives to feed those you’re supposedly trying to exterminate?

Don’t bother us with facts and evidence, the Nobelians seem to be saying. We’ve got a Jewish State to wreck.

“The Western liberal mind conceives of itself as being good because it’s liberal,” says courageous UK journalist Melanie Phillips. She goes on to wonder about the remarkable mental calisthenics that the Left must incorporate in order to side with the barbaric forces that on October 7, 2023, put babies in ovens and slaughtered children in front of their parents. And bragged about it on social media.

There comes a time when we as civilized humans must call evil evil. And when we can no longer do that, we become uncivilized. We become barbarians ourselves. Whether they know it or not, that’s the challenge that the Nobel Peace Prize Committee has put before us.
