To no one’s surprise, a recent study by the Media Research Center found that the Big Three TV networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC, ran nearly three times as much negative coverage of Republican candidates as it did of Democrat candidates leading up to tomorrow’s midterms.
Over the past month, from September 28 through October 26, MRC monitored the networks’ evening news broadcasts and found nearly 57 minutes of negative coverage focused on Republican campaigns, compared to just under 19 minutes for Democrats.
These networks’ political bias against Republican candidates is nothing new. Indeed, The Patriot Post was created 30 years ago to counter this significant leftist bias.
MRC’s report exposes that instead of relaying facts and news, the Big Three networks act as little more than propaganda outlets for Democrats, as cheerleaders for their preferred political party.
Of course, they claim to have no horse in the race, but anyone who actually follows their reporting knows better. Just look at MRC’s research data.
The Big Three practice their biased midterm campaign coverage in two glaring ways.
First, they highlight “scandals” surrounding Republican candidates and connect the narrative back to President Donald Trump. They point to Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton supposedly complaining about Trump’s campaign rallies: “I don’t control the message or what we’re doing.” They also argue that candidates can’t escape Trump’s shadow when discussing the economy.
In other words, it’s a disingenuous means of painting a negative narrative of Republicans.
Second, the networks avoid spending much time focusing on genuine scandals involving Democrat candidates.
MRC reports that, aside from the controversies surrounding Michigan Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, network evening news shows also covered the Justice Department’s raid on Minnesota Democrat Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington, DC, home — but only while dutifully noting the supposedly unprecedented timing. On the October 12 edition of ABC’s “World News Tonight,” correspondent Jay O’Brien explained, “The Justice Department traditionally avoids taking public steps in political investigations within 60 days of an election.” O’Brien also repeated Omar’s response, in which she called the raid “political intimidation” and “an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” to which she added, “I will not be silenced.”
Meanwhile, CBS’s “60 Minutes” ran a dubious hit piece against Trump immigration enforcement policy. That story highlighted a deported illegal alien, but the network failed to mention that the illegal alien in question had lied about being a homosexual to get asylum status.
Funny — the networks never seem to “mistakenly” run fake hit pieces against Democrats or their favored policy interests.
Another example of blatant bias came from NBC, which posted on its X account: “On the day a sitting president landed in Lubbock, Texas, for the first time in 34 years, people waited for hours in lines stretching for blocks in this reliably red city. But the crowd wasn’t waiting for President Trump. They were waiting for Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico.”
Folks did come to see Talarico, but the numbers hardly compared to the thousands that showed up for Trump’s rally.
MRC’s director of media analysis Geoffrey Dickens observed, “By the newscasts primarily filling their campaign stories with doom and gloom for Republicans, while barely mentioning any of the bad news for Democrats, they’ve spun a narrative that promotes excitement among leftist voters and depression for conservative voters.”
One wonders just how many more Republicans would be holding office today if the Big Three networks actually sought to report the news honestly and without such blatant pro-Democrat bias.
