Trump Champions Christian Rights

The new Oval Office occupant has established a task force to weed out anti-Christian bias to go along with a Faith Office in the White House.

President Donald Trump has taken the initiative to root out anti-Christian attacks within the federal government. He has done this in two ways. First, he signed an executive order called “Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias” on February 6. Second, through that executive order, he created the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias within the government. This is headed by the Department of Justice and chaired by Attorney General Pam Bondi.

At the recent National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, Trump explained, “Anti-Christian bias. Yeah, I never heard of that one before, right? But there is. The mission of this task force will be to immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government, including at the DOJ, which was absolutely terrible. The IRS, the FBI, terrible, and other agencies.”

It is a seemingly funny thing to have to address. After all, according to Pew Research, 63% of Americans identify as Christian — although this is a sharp decline from those who identified as Christian in 1990. Back then, 90% of Americans were confessing Christians. As The Daily Signal’s Tyler O'Neil points out, “Most Americans may identify as Christian, but far fewer actually attend church, read the Bible regularly, and follow what Scripture teaches even when it is unpopular.”

President Trump correctly assessed that under the Biden administration, conservative Christians were persecuted and not treated equally under the law. In the executive order, he cited the infamous FBI memo targeting Catholics who attend Latin Mass, as well as the attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers that went unchecked while peaceful pro-lifers were arrested at abortion mills.

Under “good Catholic” Joe Biden, the teachings of his purported faith were dismissed and secular leftism was paramount. He particularly championed gender ideology, which denies both common sense and the teachings of the Bible (see Genesis), and abortion (see the Ten Commandments regarding murder).

“My Administration,” Trump promised the American people, “will ensure that any unlawful and improper conduct, policies, or practices that target Christians are identified, terminated, and rectified.”

What is anti-Christian bias? The Signal’s O'Neil defines it as “a hatred of conservative Christians who believe what the Bible says about homosexual activity and biological sex, not a hatred of everyone who claims to follow Jesus.” Christians also believe that God, not mankind, is the king of the universe and that abortion is killing babies in the womb.

While we as conservatives fully appreciate this reprieve in the war on Christianity, we also understand that persecution is part of what it means to be a disciple of Christ.

“The truth is, Christianity doesn’t have a PR problem,” explains podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey. “The world has always hated Jesus, and because of that the world has always hated Christians. Matthew 10:22 says, ‘And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake.’”

In John 3:19-21, Jesus makes clear: “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

On the flip side of Trump’s strides toward restoring equal protection under the law for Christians, he also made an appointment that is of concern regarding the faith. During the same week he signed the “Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias” executive order, he also established a Faith Office at the White House — but he nominated Paula White, a heretic, to head it.

While Christians should be all for a Faith Office in the White House, we are also allowed to be disappointed with the president’s leadership selection here.

White is a prosperity gospel preacher, though she wouldn’t call herself that. For those unfamiliar with the prosperity gospel, it’s essentially the belief that if you name what you want and claim it in Jesus’s name, it will be yours. It is little better than the New Age pagan idea of manifesting.

White’s beliefs are heretical. She doesn’t believe in the Trinity, which is an extremely important doctrinal element of Christianity. Frankly, when even Russell Moore, the anti-Trump editor-in-chief of Christianity Today, agrees she is a bad choice for the same reason as Allie Beth Stuckey, that should count for something.

That being said, Paula White can still be used by God to bring about His glory. It’s something we should all be praying for.
