The Oscar for Clueless Comedian Goes To…

Conan O’Brien’s joke about the UK arresting pedophiles ignores the reality on the ground and left-wing hypocrisy in Hollywood.

It’s really hard to be funny when you’re full of hate. What comes through isn’t gentle mockery that makes everyone laugh because we’re all in on the humor, but rather venom and bile borne of the hatred directed at the butt of the joke.

Such is the case with late-night “comedians” Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien. They hate Donald Trump and the entire political Right so much that they are often no longer funny, as they displayed Sunday night at the 98th Academy Awards. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not exactly offended by their “humor,” but one joke in particular provides an opportunity to talk about something important that leftists routinely ignore.

More on that in a moment.

Kimmel isn’t exactly going to win an Oscar for his routine, which included making fun of rival network CBS. “As you know, there are some countries whose leaders don’t support free speech. I’m not at liberty to say which. Let’s just leave it at North Korea and CBS.”

I guess that’s a joke about Bari Weiss taking over CBS News and that she intends to restore journalistic integrity at the network. Is the joke funny? I couldn’t tell, but maybe Kimmel didn’t feel at liberty to mock his own network, ABC, after he nearly got fired last fall for a horrible joke at the expense of the late Charlie Kirk.

Speaking of Kirk and unfunny comedians, O'Brien likewise misunderstands free speech, quipping that the night’s show “could get political,” but that there’s “an alternate Oscars being hosted by Kid Rock … at Dave & Buster’s down the street.” Okay, I’ll admit that one was actually amusing, but his insult was also a massive win for Kirk’s TPUSA after its alternate Super Bowl Halftime Show. Turning Point is taking flak because it’s over the target.

The focus of my story, however, is O'Brien’s utterly preposterous joke about pedophiles. That’s not a terribly funny subject to begin with, but Conan got six kinds of sideways trying to make people laugh about it.

“It’s the first time since 2012 that there are no British actors nominated for Best Actor or Best Actress,” O'Brien said during his opening monologue. “A British spokesperson said, ‘Yeah, well, at least we arrest our pedophiles.’ So, you got that going for you.”

Former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in February for his alleged misconduct revealed by the Jeffrey Epstein files. There hasn’t exactly been a long line of cuffed perpetrators behind him.

Maybe Conan is implying that President Trump should be arrested, as well. It’s a common belief in the fever swamps of the Left that Trump committed crimes against women in Epstein’s orbit, and that he slow-walked the release of the files to protect himself.

What this not-quite-Sherlock theory misses, however, is that Joe Biden’s handlers controlled the Justice Department for four years and did nothing with the files. If there were anything criminal on Trump, Democrats would have released it years ago. Besides, how many people in the room on Sunday night were pals with Epstein?

Far more galling than the Trump-derangement are a couple of shocking realities. First is the hypocrisy of the Hollywood Left. The audience uncomfortably chuckled at O'Brien’s tasteless humor, perhaps all too aware that sexual deviancy is thoroughly ingrained in Hollywood.

Harvey Weinstein comes to mind, of course. The longtime Hollywood mogul had his way with numerous women until his victims finally started the #MeToo movement, which outed a number of powerful (and almost always leftist) men for sexual abuse and assault.

Don’t forget Roman Polanski, who worked out a plea deal on six criminal charges involving his rape of a 13-year-old girl. He also allegedly molested a 10-year-old and has been accused by numerous women of various sexual misconduct. He fled the United States and continued working for Hollywood. He won an Oscar for Best Director in 2003, and though he was not present due to being a fugitive, he received a standing ovation. He was arrested in Switzerland in 2009, and many Hollywood A-listers signed a petition demanding his release.

Then there’s the United Kingdom. Britain arrests its pedophiles, Conan says? I don’t normally quote Wikipedia, but its opening sentence on Jimmy Savile is worth it: “In late 2012, it emerged that Jimmy Savile, a British media personality who had died the previous year, had sexually abused hundreds of people throughout his life, mostly children but some as old as 75, and mostly female.”

Savile joked and wrote about his preference for young girls. A few allegations were made during his lifetime but dismissed because, evidently, no one in the UK thought it was worth pursuing a popular man who turned out to be one of the UK’s most prolific sex criminals.

Looking the other way continues today in the form of ignoring the Muslim rape gangs that roam the streets of New Pakistan, I mean, Great Britain. The only people arrested in the UK these days are people who exercise free speech, not the Muslim immigrants who prey on women and girls without consequences because, hey, the English wouldn’t want to be insensitive to migrants.

On a final note, most of Hollywood supports the Rainbow Mafia’s grooming of children. This may not be pedophilia in the usual sense, but messing with children’s sexuality, hormones, and body parts is every bit as sick and demented. Maybe Conan O'Brien should stop and think about that for a minute.
