For the members of the Islamic Center of San Diego, Monday’s shooting will forever be a day of sadness. They lost three members of their community in a senseless attack.

The two teenage boys who thought killing Muslims would be a pivotal way to solve their own impotence and slake their rage were mentally unwell. All indications are that the two males, ages 17 and 19, were radicalized by the steady diet of victim culture they were fed via the online world. They are the poster children for why kids under 18 should not be allowed to access social media, or at least not without significant safeguards.

You can tell these individuals were the product of internet culture because their hatred was multipolar. They hated everyone. According to Rod Dreher of The Free Press, “The pair hated Muslims, Jews, blacks, legal migrants, illegal migrants, Latinos, Asians, industrial society, gays, trans people, Donald Trump, ‘MAGAtard boomers,’ liberals, conservatives, moderates, and women.”

This sort of vile, insidious hatred could have been directed in many harmful directions. Hatred, after all, is the devil’s cocaine. They could have become the next tag team of serial killers targeting those at the top of their hate list (women), or they could have attacked a Jewish synagogue. Instead, they attacked a mosque, largely failed, and then killed themselves.

The only demographic they seemed to like was white people, and the only “good religion” was Christianity. Only one of the shooters claimed to be a Christian, but this we can know with certainty: neither of them knew or submitted to Christ and His authority.

The assailants declared themselves “white supremacists” or “Nazis” because they saw this transgressive ideology as a better fit for their wrath. As Dreher added, “We would be fools either to brush this off as the one-off deeds of radical racists, or attempt to make sense of their killings by slotting them into familiar categories.”

The killers referred to themselves as accelerationists, as in they wanted to ignite a race war. According to Hot Air’s John Sexton, “Accelerationists in this case appears to mean Nazis who embraced violence as a way to create a destabilization or collapse of society.”

They were mentally unstable, full of rage and hate, and looking to burn down all of society. With the ongoing Iran war and the burgeoning discussions of Islam’s incompatibility with Western culture being hot topics of debate, perhaps they felt that targeting an Islamic center might ignite a wave of retaliatory action by Muslims across the U.S.

Not the Bee’s Joel Abbot had some interesting insight regarding these cosplay Nazis. He wrote:

It is exceedingly easy to not become a Nazi LARPer if you actually understand a few basic things about the Bible.

Like all of Satan’s lies, these lads were caught up in an ideology that includes kernels of truth. The Christian West has been under a multi-century assault by various anti-Christ (as in literally opposed to Christ) ideologies that have attempted to crush it. Like several pivotal moments in the last two thousand years, it seems like the Gates of Hell are now at the very precipice of overcoming Christendom with a coalition of Marxist atheism, hedonistic consumerism, New Age paganism, the Hindu pantheon of gods, Islamic jihadis, and queers for Palestine.

The destruction of the family, radical feminization of our institutions, race wars, and mass migration are destroying our civilization.

But the Christian perspective on this is not, as the kids say, a black pill. Instead, the Christian understands that these things are proof of a spiritual war — and thereby a spiritual, unseen world — that God will easily and handily win.

Amen.

The devilish irony is that the Islamic Center of San Diego counted some of the 9/11 hijackers among its members. Those radical jihadists believed that the only way they could advance Islam was by destroying the “Great Satan” (the U.S.) and the “Little Satan” (Israel). Their own goal was religious purity, not necessarily racialism like the killers.

Furthermore, the security guard who protected the mosque with his life on Monday, Amin Abdullah, virulently hated the Jews. He heartily agreed with a post that featured an image of Hitler asking the audience, “Do you now understand why I did what I did?”

Abdullah also personally stated that “Hell Fire is waiting for them” in reference to the Jews.

At the same time, Abdullah was a father of eight, and the other victims were beloved members of the community.

The irony notwithstanding, this week’s tragedy in San Diego was senseless, carried out by warped teenagers whose murderous purposes signified nothing of social or moral value.
