Netanyahu Responds to White House Criticism
Last week, the Obama administration criticized Israel – again – for settlements in east Jerusalem. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded, “I was baffled by this statement, because it doesn’t reflect American values.” He implied Obama didn’t have “all the information,” adding, “Arabs in east Jerusalem, Palestinians, buy apartments, thousands of them, in the Jewish neighborhoods in West Jerusalem. Nobody says, ‘You can’t do it.’ If I said to you, in some place in the United States, ‘Jews cannot buy apartments here,’ there would be an uproar. I don’t accept this thing.” More evidence of the chilly relationship between our two nations, despite Netanyahu’s magnanimous insistence that his relationship with Obama is one of “mutual respect and mutual appreciation.”
