President Trump Did NOT Miss the Armistice Day Ceremony

Contrary to a deliberate media misinformation campaign, the president did attend.

This past weekend, President Donald Trump was in France to mark the 100th anniversary of Veterans Day, still known in Europe as Armistice Day. On Sunday, he joined other world leaders for a solemn ceremony at Suresnes American Cemetery outside of Paris. That site is the final resting place for 1,541 Americans.

In his remarks, the president observed, “In that treacherous forest and the surrounding fields, American Marines, Soldiers, and Allied forces fought, and they fought through hell, to turn the tide of the war. We fought well together.” He concluded, “It is our duty to preserve the civilization they defended and to protect the peace they so nobly gave their lives to secure one century ago.”

But you would be hard-pressed to find coverage of that ceremony.

According to saturated “news” reports by Leftmedia outlets Sunday, Trump missed the 100th anniversary ceremony — at least that was the confusing message they delivered in mass. In fact, by Sunday night, headlines like The Hill’s “Trump criticized after White House cancels cemetery visit in France over weather” dominated the news, numbering what seemed like 100-1 over reports about the actual Veterans Day ceremony the president did attend. ABC breathlessly proclaimed, “Trump’s rain check on honoring Americans killed in WWI prompts backlash.” Of course, The Washington Post led with “Critics pile on after Trump cancels visit to U.S. military cemetery.”

This disgraceful disinformation campaign comports with a now-familiar pattern the mainstream media uses to undermine the truth, and indeed, such reports do constitute a formidable “enemy of the people.” It was a more offensive media charade than most because it politicized a lie that then overshadowed the truth about solemnly honoring WWI Veterans on Sunday. The only “backlash” about the Saturday ceremony that was missed because of weather was generated in the MSM echo chambers, where they constantly endeavor to be rainmakers.

Typical of the follow-on social media posts was this from Barack Obama’s national security advisor, Ben Rhodes, who declared Trump was “blowing off honoring American servicemen who died for us,” which is the first time Rhodes or any other Obama administration hack found a reason to honorably mention our Patriot Veterans.

In fact, because of weather Saturday, for safety reasons, Trump’s 50-mile flight from Paris to Aisne Marne American Cemetery aboard Marine One was canceled. While Chief of Staff John Kelly and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford made the trek by motorcade, it was the right call not to put the president in a cross-country motorcade through unsecured areas in a nation that has, regrettably (even according to some French leaders), been overrun by Muslims — among whom are many Islamists. It was more polite and diplomatic for the White House security team to just cite the weather and leave it at that.

As for the MSM coverage of the actual Veterans Day ceremony Sunday, that was universally focused on leftist French President Emmanuel Macron’s tasteless diversionary remarks pointed at Trump’s “America First” trade policies: “Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism. Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism by saying, ‘Our interest first; who cares about the others?’” Recall that in October, Trump declared of his administration’s trade and security policies, “You know what I am? I am a nationalist, okay? I’m a nationalist.” (Earlier in the week Macron’s abject idiocy shined with this remark: “We have to protect ourselves with respect to China, Russia, and even the United States of America.”)

Macron’s assertion notwithstanding, the root definitions of “nationalism” and “patriotism” are very similar. And for the record, the national security opinion of French leaders has not served the best interest of Liberty since the American Revolution, and only then because they hated the British.
