Ocasio-Cortez, the Misunderstood Comedian
“You’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a particularly brazen member of Congress. Earlier this year, she declared the utter seriousness of climate change: “I think the part of it that is generational is that Millennials and people, in Gen Z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, ‘The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.’ And your biggest issue, your biggest issue is, ‘How are we going to pay for it?’ And, like, this is the war. This is our World War II.” Many times since, she has repeated the 12 years deadline.
Now she says, “Just kidding. LOL.”
“This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and ‘fact check’ it,” she tweeted this week. “Like the ‘world ending in 12 years’ thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal.”
Like, we must be crazy for noting what she said just last month: “We have 12 years left to cut emissions by at least 50% if not more. For everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not, so understand that the Internet documents everything.”
Yes, yes it does.
So while the Internet keeps a record of all the insane things AOC has said in her young congressional career, we’re left with a simple question: Should anyone take this woman seriously when she’s either hyperbolic to the point of hysteria or she’s mocking people for not “getting the joke”? And all that while she’s pitching a $93 trillion “solution” to a problem that we either are or aren’t supposed to take literally.
On a final note, once again The Babylon Bee got it exactly right: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Astounded To Learn Anyone Takes Her Seriously.”
