Where does an upstanding Border Patrol agent go to get his reputation back? We ask because there are a few such agents who were viciously smeared back in September by the Left, by the Biden administration, and by the mainstream media. But we repeat ourselves.

You remember the images. And you remember the 72-point-font front-page headlines. What you may not have noticed earlier this week, though, is the 10-point tiny-type story on page D12 of the Border Patrol agents being cleared of all criminal charges in that fake, phony, fraudulent news story about them having “whipped” a group of illegal immigrants while on horseback. Any idiot could see that the mounted agents were using reins to control their horses, not whips to punish the Haitian illegals.

As NewsBusters reports: “Now that the agents are in the clear, all three networks — ABC’s World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, and NBC Nightly News — were more interested in covering local weather reports, The Library of Congress adding new songs to their registry, and El Salvador using Bitcoin as their national currency.”

These men should’ve been cleared in seven minutes. Instead, it took the Biden administration and its rotten DHS secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, seven months to do so. Recall that this is the same Mayorkas who put these men on desk duty for the duration of the probe, and who assured us that the investigation was being done with “tremendous speed and force” and would be completed within “a matter of days, not weeks.”

But it’s even worse than that. As Fox News reports: “A photographer who took the images in question said that ‘nobody saw a Border Patrol agent whipping,’ and Mayorkas initially backed the agents. … By Tuesday, his message changed, telling CNN that the images ‘troubled me profoundly.’ … Vice President Kamala Harris also weighed in, saying she wanted an investigation and was ‘deeply troubled’ about the alleged treatment of migrants.”

No wonder Border Patrol agents gave Mayorkas an earful earlier this year in Yuma, Arizona. “Let me just say, you can turn your back on me, but I’ll never turn my back on you,” said Mayorkas, himself a Cuban visa fraudster. To which the agent shot back, “You did the day you were appointed.”

Remarkably, the agents aren’t out of the woods yet. They might still face dismissal for “violating policies.” DHS hasn’t even officially announced that they’ve been cleared of criminal charges.

These are your open-borders tax dollars at work.

Speaking of open borders, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been busy shoring up a porous border while not hampering the flow of legitimate business across it. As the Chamber of Commerce types at The Wall Street Journal complained: “Abbott on Wednesday sent a bus load of undocumented immigrants to Washington, D.C, to protest President Biden’s border policies. Fine if he wants to poke lawmakers to control illegal migration, but why is he also punishing Americans by obstructing legal commerce?”

Fair enough, even if the Journal’s New York City offices are about as far removed as can be from the daily catastrophe of our nation’s southern border. Yesterday, though, Abbott responded by signing an agreement with the Mexican governor of the neighboring state to scale back his “enhanced” truck inspections at the border.

More importantly, in our estimation, is that Abbott is sending a powerful message to residents of our nation’s capital who always seem to be so insulated from the consequences of the policies they foist on the rest of us. Open borders hurt the American people. Joe Biden is running midnight flights of illegals to various locales around the nation with nary a peep from the mainstream media. Abbott just gave him a dose of his own medicine.
