Obama in Wonderland
The more President Obama talks about the supposed joys of his Affordable Health Care law, the more he resembles a political Mad Hatter, devoid of reason, absent logic and ignorant of facts. At a Rose Garden event Monday, the president's theatrics were on full display. With a chorus of supporters behind him, Obama blamed the "slow, wonky" rollout of health insurance enrollment on too many people trying to log on to the government's new marketplace website at the same time. He labeled the false start "glitches." This isn't a glitch; it's a disaster.

O'care's Square-Wheeled Rollout Has Dems on Hot Seat
Earlier this week, MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski tried to call the HealthCare.gov helpline and got an operator. That's right: an operator! The call went through! MSNBC, the unofficial AV department of the Democratic Party, had a scoop. The network tweeted out the big news along with a link to the video: "Mika called the Obamacare hotline and got through with no problems -- right on air. WATCH."

TV Has to Be at Least 42% Gay?
The media elites glowed as they reported a judge had forced New Jersey to become the 14th state to honor and celebrate the "gay marriage" concept. When homosexuals marry in Hoboken, the gay left will be -- should be -- thanking Hollywood. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has issued a new report boasting that "TV hasn't merely reflected the changes in social attitudes; it has also had an important role in bringing them about. Time and again, it's been shown that personally knowing an LGBT person is one of the most influential factors in shifting one's views on LGBT issues, but in the absence of that, many viewers have first gotten to know us as television characters."

What Happened to All of Obama's Technology Czars?
Why does the White House need a private-sector "tech surge" to repair its wretched Obamacare website failures? Weren't all of the president's myriad IT czars and their underlings supposed to ensure that taxpayers got the most effective, innovative, cutting-edge and secure technology for their money? Now is the perfect time for an update on Obama's top government titans of information technology. As usual, "screw up, move up" is standard bureaucratic operating procedure.

What's Wrong With Rooting for Failure?
In a news conference expected to feature a mea culpa for the Obamacare website fiasco, President Barack Obama turned the tables on his political opponents, scolding them for using their supernatural ability to transform the mere hope of failure into a reality. "It's time," he implored, "for folks to stop rooting for its failure, because hardworking middle-class families are rooting for its success."

Immigration Reform Could Help GOP
The latest opinion polls show that the GOP has suffered a huge drop in its approval ratings, even among self-identified Republicans. In the wake of the government shutdown, only 28 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of the party, and Republicans are twice as likely as Democrats to view their own party negatively, according to a recent Gallup poll. Given these dire numbers, you'd think the Republican leadership would jump at the chance to help repair the damage. But is there anything Republicans can do?

Polyamory Rights
Slate magazine deserves credit for publishing a series of articles about polyamory. The first, "Why I'm Still In The Polyamory Closet," by the pseudonymous "Michael Carey," elicited angry letters because Carey compared polyamorists with homosexuals. Polyamory (the desire -- need? -- for multiple sexual partners) is a choice, the letter writers protested, whereas homosexuality is innate, like skin color.

In Shutdown Fight, the Dog That Didn't Bark: Taxes
Sherlock Holmes famously solved a mystery by noticing the dog that did not bark. In the recent government shutdown/debt ceiling fight, there was a five-letter dog that didn't bark: T-A-X-E-S. Democrats insisted they wouldn't negotiate until they negotiated, and they insisted that a government shutdown was unprecedented although it was the 17th such shutdown since people started counting under the current budget rules in the late 1970s.

Evaluating Sea Ice
"I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!" --Captain Renault, Casablanca This just about sums up the attitude on Antarctic sea ice which continues to break records, this time doing so about 10 days *after* the annual average peak.

ObamaCare: Jest What the Doctor Ordered
If laughter is the best medicine, then ObamaCare's delivering plenty! Everyday Americans may not be benefiting from the new system, but it's certainly been God's gift to late-night comedians. For the past few days, writers have been eating up the government's incompetence, taking rare shots at an administration that, until recently, had been virtually off-limits. Now, the ObamaCare jokes are rolling in, as everyone from Stephen Colbert to Jon Stewart mock the health care system that was supposed to be the President's greatest achievement. With the government's website on the fritz, Jay Leno cracked that a friend of his "was given six months by his doctor -- not to live, to sign up for ObamaCare." And while HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius promised that the administration is bringing in the "best and brightest" to fix the problems, Leno wondered, "Why didn't we bring in the best and brightest in the first place?"

Hang One, to Encourage the Others
One of the most effective ways of discouraging people is to make them think there's absolutely nothing they can do about something, anyway. Thus, liberals have tried to insinuate that Obamacare is impossible to remove, hoping conservatives will despair. But with only one-half of one branch of government, Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and the House Republicans have made it absolutely clear that Republicans are not giving up on repealing Obamacare. Inasmuch as "bubonic plague" is polling higher than "Obamacare," I'd say this is a brilliant marketing strategy for the GOP.

Take Aim at the Real Enemy
While we watch the S.S. Obamacare sink beneath the waves, and while we watch the White House explain why its signature legislative "achievement" is not the titanic disaster we all knew it would be, I have some advice for my fellow Republicans. Shut up. Quit shooting Cruz missiles at each other. And take aim at the real enemy -- the Democrats and their awful agenda for America.

Chris Noth: Another 'Brain Dead' Actor
Add another actor to the list. Chris Noth, currently starring in "The Good Wife," played Detective Mike Logan on "Law & Order" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and "Mr. Big" on "Sex and the City." Noth has now outed himself -- as yet another liberal. Worse, his moronic anti-GOP, anti-tea party comments put him into the category of "brain dead" Hollywood liberal, to use an expression from playwright David Mamet.

Obamacare for Kookistan First
The utter disaster of the Obamacare rollout is now a matter of fact. Even President Barack Obama's Monday morning attempt at damage control in the Rose Garden was a disaster. Behind him stood a score or more of supporters all drawn from points around the country, all apparently in need of Obamacare. Some were in need of a doctor's immediate attention. One was Karmel Allison. Yes, her name was Karmel! She was a young lady standing to the right of our president. Suddenly she appeared glassy-eyed. She seemed about to faint. She must have made a gentle gasp because the president suddenly turned around and momentarily forgot about Obamacare. He said weakly, "I got you. You're OK?" At that point she was helped, do we say off stage? At any rate, she was taken away to seek proper medical care. Presumably, it is still available at the White House.

Mikey's Murfs Strike Again
Mikey Weinstein heads up an outfit called Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), which might be shortened to Murfs. These atheizers are not to be confused with those cuddly Smurfs. The little blue cartoon character Smurfs all wear Phrygian caps -- a symbol of freedom. No, Murfs take it on themselves to *smother* religious freedom. Mikey and the Murfs are bragging about their latest score. It took just 68 minutes for the Murfs to pull down a poster at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Why? Because the poster promoted the honor system and said -- "So help me God." Well, Murfs can't stand any mention of You Know Who, so Mikey swung into action and demanded the offending poster be pulled down.

Who Says We Don't Have a Monarchy?
For those who don't have enough irony in their daily diet, let me point out that the Founders fought a revolution in order to free themselves from King George. Now, a scant two hundred-odd years later, we are forced to support the Obamas in a style more lavish than anything ever dreamed of by even the most self-indulgent of the French monarchs.

Race-Hustling Results: Part III
One of the reasons for being glad to be as old as I am is that I may be spared living to see a race war in America. Race wars are often wars in which nobody wins and everybody ends up much worse off than they were before. Initial skirmishes in that race war have already begun, and have in fact been going on for some years. But public officials pretend that it is not happening, and the mainstream media seldom publish it at all, except in ways that conceal what is really taking place.

Beware the Hidden Costs of Beautifully Misnamed Laws
Washington has a bad habit of naming laws by what they are not. These euphemisms usually win temporary public support. After all, who wants to be against anything "affordable"? But on examination, such idealistically named legislation usually turns out to be aimed at special interests and the opposite of what voters were promised.

Virginia's Other Choice
When William F. Buckley, running as the Conservative Party's candidate for mayor of New York in 1965, was asked what he would do if he won, he replied: "Demand a recount." Robert Sarvis, Libertarian Party candidate for governor of Virginia, will not need to do this. Hours before Gallup reported record nationwide support -- 60 percent -- for a third party to leaven politics, Sarvis was declared ineligible for the final debate for gubernatorial candidates because he fell a tad short of a 10 percent average in recent polls. None of this disturbed his leisurely enjoyment of a tuna-burger lunch before sauntering off in search of free media, about the only kind he can afford.
