The breathless headline of the ProPublica piece reads like something out of The National Enquirer: “The Untold Origins of Trump’s Plan to Sharply Restrict Mail-In Voting.”
The subhead then tees up the Trumpian treachery: “ProPublica’s reporting reveals for the first time the extent of the White House’s role in trying to dictate how mail-in ballots are processed, spurring behind-the-scenes drama that played out for nearly a year.”
The nerve of the administration, trying to keep bulk-mail ballot fraud to a minimum and thereby restoring both confidence and legitimacy to our federal elections.
Indeed, Donald Trump has made a Herculean effort to shore up election integrity, but he’s being attacked, blocked, and thwarted at every turn.
As for ProPublica, this is a left-wing hack factory that can’t be trusted. Recall that the last time we organized some synapses toward their work was when they were helping the Democrats delegitimize the Supreme Court by smearing its two conservative stalwarts, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
Heck, ProPublica’s activists even have a creepy obsession with OMB Director Russ Vought.
As for this anti-Trump hit piece, it treats mail-in voting as something we’ve always done, not something that was foisted upon us — temporarily, we thought — as a means of protecting us from COVID-19 transmission back in the fall of 2020. Instead, six years later, mail-in voting has become a fixture, while ballot-integrity measures have been utterly ignored in favor of the Democrats’ preference for “Anything Goes!” elections.
“Earlier this month,” ProPublica breathlessly reports, “the Supreme Court blocked an executive order from President Donald Trump restricting voting by mail in ways that could have thrown the upcoming midterms into chaos. But the White House originally had far more disruptive plans, ProPublica has learned.”
The ProPublicans continue, “According to several people knowledgeable about the discussions, the administration initially floated an idea that would have virtually shut down mail voting: requiring all ballots to be delivered exclusively through certified mail. The proposal — which would have required voters to be home and sign for delivery of their ballots — was ultimately abandoned, after vehement Postal Service objections that it would have been impossible to execute.”
Imagine that. Time was when we had to positively prove our identity in order to cast a ballot. Doesn’t certified mail require the same sort of positive identification?
On October 14, the Supreme Court rendered all this moot, ruling against the Trump administration’s efforts and instead opting for electoral chaos and suspicion by rejecting the Trump administration’s last-ditch effort to enforce new U.S. Postal Service restrictions on otherwise fraud-friendly mail-in ballots. The administration was pushing for federal ballots to be contained in envelopes with an electronically scannable election-mail logo and barcode — a system that would’ve made it immeasurably more difficult for Democrats to find just enough boxes of votes in those crucial congressional swing districts that’ll determine which party controls Congress for the final two years of Trump’s presidency.
Not surprisingly, this isn’t ProPublica’s first foray into the “TRUMP’S STEALING THE ELECTION” fever swamps.
ProPublica fancies itself as “Investigative Journalism in the Public Interest,” but its interest, as expressed in its body of work, is in progressive politicking. No one should trust it.
This is an organization, after all, that has never once, near as I can tell, so much as stripped the words “Hunter Biden” into one of its headlines, but did spend untold time and energy to write and publish a piece titled “Let’s Recall What Exactly Paul Manafort and Rudy Giuliani Were Doing in Ukraine.”
Really? By this narrative, the Ukraine scandal was about Trump’s lieutenants, not Hunter’s money-for-nothing gig with Burisma or Joe’s plain-as-day quid pro quo in getting Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin fired.
Nothinginthepublicinteresttoseeherekindlymovealong, right, ProPublica?
Interestingly, ProPublica did publish an investigative piece titled “The Benefits of Being Joe Biden’s Brother,” in which they dug into the symbiotic influence-peddling relationship between Joe and Jim.
But here, timing is everything. You see, ProPublica published that hard-hitting piece on February 14, 2020, just two weeks before the Democrat Machine and its Leftmedia lickspittles went all in on scuttling Bernie Sanders’s presidential bid and instead propping up Joe Biden in the South Carolina primary — a primary that rescued Biden’s then-moribund candidacy and propelled him to the nomination. Strange, but that seemed to be the last ProPublica investigation into the Biden Crime Family. Why, it’s almost as if its hacks obediently fell in line once they got their pro-Democrat marching orders.
Far be it from me to cast aspersions on ProPublica’s reliability and objectivity as a journalistic enterprise, but all this casting about is giving me a sore shoulder.
