Although Disney seems to have gone entirely woke, there was a time when it produced wholesome family movies. One of those great movies is “Mulan.”

The theme that is best portrayed in this movie is honor. Mulan went to war on her father’s behalf to bring her family honor. Mushu became Mulan’s guardian spirit to bring his ancestors honor. Li Shang strived to build a strong army of men to bring honor to his father and country. The characters in this movie thought of their families and made decisions based on how their actions would affect their families’ reputations.

One can only wonder how different our culture would be if we thought about family honor before making decisions. Instead, it seems like many things today are done with only the self in mind.

For example, young women today are turning to websites like OnlyFans to make money that will allow them to live luxurious lifestyles. Women willingly use their bodies as products to sell and make a profit without asking themselves what the ramifications will be to their families and themselves.

In 2021, a boy was left nearly suicidal after he was bullied for having a mother who sold herself on OnlyFans. Recently, a boy in Florida was kicked out of his Christian private school because his mom refused to remove her OnlyFans decal from her car.

Young men turn to pornography and promiscuity without thinking of the damage this could bring to their current and future families. These behaviors result in damaging consequences like fatherless homes that wound generations to come.

If the movie “Mulan” were to take place in today’s Western culture, Mulan would be a rabid feminist who believes that women’s empowerment is to sell her body online for profit. Her father would have gone to war and likely died shortly after. Mushu would not have become Mulan’s guardian spirit because a male guardian spirit is an example of the patriarchy oppressing women. Li Shang’s masculinity would be deemed toxic, and his weak soldiers would be mentally ill men battling gender dysphoria. Ultimately, the Huns would defeat China, further complicating the U.S. and Chinese relationship.

All in all, “Mulan” is a great family movie from which many of us could take lessons.
