DACA 2.0 May Be Coming

Joe Biden is reportedly floating the creation of a DACA-inspired amnesty plan for illegal aliens who have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years.

With the U.S. southern border having been overrun by millions of illegal immigrants thanks to Joe Biden’s de facto open-border policy, even Democrat-run “sanctuary cities” have reacted with outrage. This ruinous policy has damaged Biden’s reelection prospects, and one would think that he’d reverse course and actually enforce America’s borders.

But one would be wrong. Far from seeking to do anything to secure the border, Biden wants to double down.

The Biden administration reportedly believes that much of the outrage over illegal immigration has died down. The administration contends that the Republicans’ refusal to pass a bad immigration bill has helped to spin the narrative in Biden’s favor. Furthermore, the number of illegal migrant crossings has slightly dipped from a record high this past December, helping to take the issue off the front page.

Therefore, rather than seek to engage in border enforcement actions, Biden is now considering what may best be labeled as DACA 2.0.

Politico reports, “Like the Obama administration did in 2012 with the launch of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, Biden administration officials are also examining whether there’s an action they could take for a different group of undocumented people who have long resided in the United States, according to the three people familiar with the administration’s planning.”

What is this plan? As the article further explains: “One idea that has been floated among administration officials is opening access to the cancellation of removal program for people who have lived in the U.S. for over 10 years and have citizen or resident relatives who would ‘suffer’ if they were deported. If specific requirements are met and an immigration judge approves cancellation of removal, a migrant is able to obtain a green card.”

That’s right: a DACA-inspired amnesty plan for illegal aliens who have been living in the U.S. for at least 10 years, giving them green cards. No part of this is legal, but that didn’t stop Barack Obama, so what’s to stop Joe “Student Loan Forgiveness” Biden?

Once again, Biden’s objective regarding illegal immigration has not changed. When the optics got bad, he simply used the failed passage of a bad immigration bill as a smokescreen. Furthermore, he can rely on the mainstream media to spin the coverage in his favor. Indeed, Politico did just that, as it avoided distinguishing between legal and illegal immigration, thereby disingenuously painting Republicans as anti-immigration.

Republicans have never been anti-immigration. Instead, they have long opposed illegal immigration. That distinction matters, which is why Politico and its Leftmedia brethren choose to ignore it. Rule of Law also matters, though Democrats will always trample it for political points.
