The Establishment Betrayed the Grassroots Long Before Trump
The Lincoln Project and other “Never Trumpers” also have deep pockets.
When we listen to the Lincoln Project explain why it’s backing Joe Biden, when we hear these so-called conservatives claim that Donald Trump has so violated the norms of decency and civility that they have no choice but to work to elect someone else — even if that someone is a habitual liar and not a decent man who will be a cognitively impaired tool of the radical left — it’s hard to hold back a laugh. After all, many of the figures tied to these “Republicans for Biden” groups are the same people who left grassroots Patriots hanging long ago.
If it seems like we covered some of this ground before, it’s because we have. But given the media’s efforts to mislead Americans, it doesn’t hurt to discuss a few of the times where the “establishment” that still denounces Trump stayed silent while the Democrats launched an assault on norms and civility.
Perhaps the best example of this is the Internal Revenue Service targeting scandal. For all the Leftmedia’s obsession over Russia, the IRS engaged in far more significant election interference with its political targeting prior to the 2012 presidential election. In December of that year, an American Enterprise Institute study estimated that the Tea Party’s activism brought in as many as six million new voters to the 2010 midterms. That alone could’ve tilted the 2012 election to Mitt Romney, as Barack Obama’s national popular vote margin in 2012 was about five million.
But that might be underestimating what the interference did. Shortly after the IRS scandal broke in 2013, the author of the AEI study estimated that as many as 8.5 million votes could have been brought in for Republicans had the Tea Party’s grassroots efforts not been suppressed.
But what’s notable is that for all the talk we hear from the Lincoln Project about how Trump abuses power, these goons were apparently silent when it came to the Obama administration’s weaponization of the IRS to obstruct and suppress the Tea Party. The same silence was also the case for the Republicans’ 2012 nominee, Mitt Romney. When grassroots Patriots who were planning to work for Republican candidates were being harassed, the establishment left them hanging at the time the abuses took place. Imagine if they’d raised that issue during the 2012 campaign.
But they didn’t. Nor were the establishment types any help when those groups sought accountability. The same establishment was also silent when former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was wrongly blamed for a deranged man’s shooting rampage in Tucson that left six people dead and Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords gravely injured. When Candidate Romney was attacked as a tax cheat, none of the self-appointed “civility cops” called BS. When Michelle Obama slimed those trying to reform her failed school lunch program by saying they were okay with “kids eating crap,” again, there was silence from the establishment. When radio talk-show host Dana Loesch was facing misogynistic attacks for supporting the Second Amendment in the wake of the massacre at Marjorie Stoneham Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the Lincoln Project clique was silent.
Worst of all, even as the American Patriots who effectively interrogated the likes of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed face persecution, those at the Bulwark — a new “Never Trump” publication — were silent. In cases where Trump stood up for our troops who were being endangered by arcane rules of engagement, they attacked him for giving those we sent to fight the benefit of the doubt. Many of them remained silent while the “Gitmo Bar” made Hanoi Jane Fonda’s North Vietnamese photo op look like peanuts. The list where the establishment’s silence still speaks volumes goes on and on.
Here’s the harsh truth: Donald Trump winning the GOP nomination in 2016 wasn’t a case of the grassroots Patriots betraying conservative and Republican principles. Instead, it was a reaction to a lengthy list of failures by the establishment. Grassroots Patriots have seen what it looks like when someone actually fights for them. The conduct since then of the “Republicans for Biden” and the Lincoln Project should be more than enough incentive for grassroots Patriots to complete the process of firing them on November 3.
