Biden’s Upside-Down Vax Mandate
Illegals will not be mandated to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Legal immigrants will.
Many Americans who refuse the COVID vaccine must jump through a series of weekly testing hoops or risk losing their jobs following Joe Biden’s mandate that requires all companies with 100 or more employees to get those workers vaccinated or face hefty fines. Clearly, even after Biden had insisted he was opposed to such mandates, he now believes that mandating vaccinations is the only way to “convince” more Americans to get the jab.
Putting aside the obvious constitutional infringement of a federal mandate — for a vaccine using new technology to prevent a novel virus with a survival rate averaging 98.2% — the Biden administration’s utter inability to maintain any semblance of consistency regarding its own COVID policy is grounds enough to cry foul.
To be clear, we have no issue with the COVID vaccines and their demonstrable effectiveness. Our position is and remains standing on the side of promoting Liberty. The decision for getting the vaccine is best left up to an individual under the consultation of their doctor, not coercion because of a mandate from Washington, DC.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has announced that beginning October 1, all foreign nationals seeking to travel into the U.S. will need to be fully vaccinated. However, in almost the same breath, the Biden administration admitted that migrants caught illegally crossing into the U.S. will not be required to get the jab.
An exchange between White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki and Fox News’s Peter Doocy serves to underscore the Biden administration’s self-contradictory vaccine policy:
Doocy: “Why is it that you’re trying to require anybody with a job or anybody who goes to school to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but you’re not requiring that of migrants that continue walking across the southern border into the country?”
Psaki: “Well, look, our objective is to get as many people vaccinated across the country as humanly possible. And so the president’s announcement … was an effort to empower businesses, to give businesses the tools to protect their workforces. That’s exactly what we did. But certainly we want everybody to get vaccinated. And more people who are vaccinated, whether they are migrants or whether they are workers, protects more people in the United States.”
Doocy: “But it’s a requirement for people at a business with more than 100 people, but it’s not a requirement for migrants at the southern border. Why?”
Psaki: "That’s correct.“
On Monday, Psaki was again questioned on the administration’s COVID vaccine policy regarding illegal aliens. The press secretary argued: "As individuals come across the border, they are both assessed for whether they have any symptoms, if they have symptoms, the intention is for them to have to be quarantined. That is our process.” Yet when pressed further as to why there’s no COVID vaccine mandate for illegals, Psaki obfuscated: “They are not intending to stay here for a lengthy period of time. I don’t think it’s the same thing. It is not the same thing.”
What? First, the whole reason they came here is to stay. Second, is she suggesting that COVID will leave with them? Does the administration not understand the basic science of how viruses spread?
Essentially, as with his open-border policy, Biden is not interested in holding illegal immigrants to the same standards, even policy standards of his own creation, that he seems so eager to impose on American citizens. Government power for Biden appears to matter only when it comes to interfering in Americans’ lives and further limiting freedom. Yet when it comes to those who knowingly break our laws by entering our nation illegally, all we get from the Biden administration is a big shrug. Move along; nothing to see here.
