The Dems’ J6 Dog-and-Pony Show
Democrats are trying mightily to distract the American people from all their miserable failures.
The Twitter account of the House Judiciary Committee’s GOP contingent summed things up nicely: Gas is $5 per gallon, baby formula is in scarce supply, grocery prices are at record highs, crime is rampant, our southern border is porous, and our foreign policy is a disaster.
Oh, and Joe Biden is the worst president in history.
It was against this backdrop, then, that Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Trump-deranged House Democrats launched their January 6 dog-and-pony show: a primetime festival of pearl-clutching foolishness and a capstone course on why this rotten political party is fittin’ to be curb-stomped by the Republicans come November 8.
First and foremost, this is a rigged game. It always was. Pity the American fool who doesn’t know that Pelosi’s “Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol” is a purely partisan affair. Not a single real Republican is on the committee, as Pelosi long ago took the unprecedented and telltale step of booting Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s two GOP representatives off the committee. Those men, House Judiciary Ranking Member Jim Jordan and Republican Study Committee Chair Jim Banks, would’ve brought serious scrutiny and balance to the committee’s proceedings and findings. Instead, Pelosi put in their place two turncoat Demo stooges and soon-to-be ex-congresspersons — Wyoming’s Liz Cheney and Illinois’s Adam Kinzinger.
But even stacking the deck didn’t help. Yesterday’s presentation was not only purely prosecutorial; it was also weak. The Democrats overpromised all week, and last night they underdelivered.
“What’s actually missing in this special sauce of prime TV hours, slick videos and positive press,” notes The Wall Street Journal’s Kim Strassel, “is the one ingredient truly vital for public interest: credibility. If huge swathes of America ignore the committee’s work, it will be because the committee itself — through its construction and through its actions — made it easy.”
Aside from the monopartisan nature of the committee, the Democrats had another credibility crisis to contend with: No one trusts them on matters of political violence. That’s because, as our Mark Alexander has chronicled, Democrats are the prevailing provokers and promoters of violence, political and otherwise. Some might even say theirs is The Party of Crime.
The Democrat Party is for lawlessness and the breakdown of society. While they defund the police, violent crime is skyrocketing in our communities. Enough is enough. pic.twitter.com/SAuwKe9jIM

Nor did it help that Democrat committee member Adam Schiff is a liar of the lips-are-moving variety. Nor that J6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson voted to overturn the 2004 election won by Republican George W. Bush, and member Jamie Raskin voted to overturn the 2016 election won by none other than Donald Trump. And isn’t that what this whole thing is all about — an ostensible effort to overturn an election?
Suffice it to say that the political violence of January 6 was inexcusable. But it happened, and our elected representatives thus have a duty to the American people to get the history right — not to whitewash certain inconvenient aspects of it, such as why Pelosi, who as House speaker is responsible for the Capitol’s security, failed so miserably to secure it even though she had advanced knowledge of the potential for violence. Or what role the FBI played in promoting the violence.
Why, specifically, did Pelosi and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser refuse to arm up with the 20,000 National Guardsmen that were authorized in advance by President Donald Trump? And why won’t the FBI come clean about its relationship with Ray Epps and the other agents provocateur of January 6?
So, what happens next? The Wall Street Journal reports:
The committee is expected to hold five more hearings over the next two weeks, with the final hearing scheduled for June 23. The second hearing will focus on what Mr. Trump and his advisers knew at the time, Ms. Cheney said Thursday. She said the committee has evidence that Mr. Trump and his advisers knew he had lost the election.
The next two hearings are expected to focus on Mr. Trump’s efforts to pressure Justice Department officials and to press then-Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to count Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory during the joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, Ms. Cheney said. The final two June hearings are expected to focus on Mr. Trump’s actions on Jan. 6.
Will the Democrats succeed in their creepy obsession to tar Donald Trump? Will they convince the American people that the thing they should be most concerned about during those kitchen-table talks is the events of January 6, 2021?
It’s doubtful. But, hey, it’s all they’ve got.
Footnote: According to California Democrat Congressman Pete Aguilar, “These hearings will be a chance for the country to come together, to rally around the truth and unite in the rule of law. We owe it to the officers who lost their lives.” That lie was repeated even more spectacularly by CBS “journalist” Bob Costa, who said, “Thursday’s primetime hearing will take Americans back to January 6, when an estimated 2,000 rioters breached the Capitol building, causing the deaths of five police officers.” Say what? Not a single police officer was killed by protesters. The only person killed that day was an unarmed 35-year-old woman — a 14-year Air Force veteran named Ashli Babbitt, who attempted to climb through a broken window leading to an area where members of the House were being secured. While doing so, she was shot dead by a Capitol Police officer, Michael Byrd, in an incident that was never subject to public investigation and appears unjustifiable.
Further, Democrats and their media brethren claimed for months after the Capitol riot that Officer Brian Sicknick (himself a Trump supporter) had been bludgeoned to death with a fire extinguisher. That was a despicable lie. Sicknick died a day later due to natural causes, and both the medical examiner and his family confirmed it was unrelated to the protest.
