Money Going to Washington
According to a New York Post article (May 22, 2016), in just two years, Hillary Clinton — former first lady, senator from New York and secretary of state — collected over $21 million in speaking fees. These fees were paid by Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, Fidelity Investments, UBS, Bank of America and several hedge fund companies.

Obama & Orlando
Sunday afternoon, President Obama took to the podium at the White House briefing room and turned the Orlando attack into a tirade against guns. Obama said that the FBI had “reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer.” In fact, the FBI had a pretty good idea given that Omar Mateen called 911 and pledged his loyalty to ISIS.

I grew up in Waco, Texas. When I was a child, the city was completely segregated — the schools, the churches, the lunch counters, etc. Public buildings not only had separate restrooms for blacks and whites, they even had separate drinking fountains.

I admit it’s not easy picturing Bernie Sanders, the schnook from Brooklyn by way of Vermont as a Mafioso, but it’s obvious that he will make Hillary Clinton an offer she won’t be able to refuse. The offer will be to support her and not run as a third party candidate so long as he gets to create the Democratic platform in his own goofy image and that she remains as far to the left as he has moved her, and that she not try to sneak back to the middle in the general election.
He Hasn’t Kept Us Safe
President Barack Obama desperately wanted to be a peacetime president, yet is ending his second term with Islamic terror attacks looming larger than at any time since 9/11. The tide of war isn’t receding, as he famously contended in a speech on the Afghan drawdown in 2011; it is lapping onto our shores. The left hates the notion that George W. Bush “kept us safe,” but after Sept. 11 — a plot set in motion before he took office — Bush prevented another significant attack the rest of his presidency, at a time when a follow-on strike here at home seemed all but inevitable.

It survives by mutating, even migrating across the political spectrum from the right to the left. Although most frequently found in European semi-fascist parties, anti-Semitism is growing in the fetid Petri dish of American academia, and is staining Britain’s Labour Party.

School Rejects Teen’s Gun-Toting, Flag-Waving Photo
Joshua Bruner is a real-life Captain America. The 15-year-old country boy from Ringoes, New Jersey, is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He’s a member of two state shooting teams and he serves as a United States Sea Cadet. Darcy Meys said her son wants to follow in his great-grandfather’s footsteps and enlist in the Marines. “Josh considers himself to be a patriot,” she told me. “He loves his country.” A few weeks ago Josh was given an assignment in a photography class at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. He had to take a self-portrait representing self-expression.

I couldn’t wait to see the documentary “Weiner,” which in about an hour and a half documented the remarkable fall, rise and fall, of the former NY congressman and aspiring mayor of NYC. Being a political junkie, I found the movie fascinating, funny and even a little sad. It was funny because here was a guy who, as a liberal Jew, could have spent 40 more years in Congress, rising, as every aging leftwing hack does, to the inevitable rank of statesman, if only he wasn’t fixated on texting pictures of what, in romance fiction, is often described as one’s throbbing manhood, to various women he had never even met.
Second Amendment at Risk
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck a major blow against the Second Amendment this week. In an opinion written by a Clinton appointee, the court declared, “We hold that the Second Amendment does not preserve or protect a right of a member of the general public to carry concealed firearms in public.” This will no doubt be quite a shock to pro-Second Amendment residents in the states covered by the 9th Circuit, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

President Obama’s address at Hiroshima, Japan on May 27 provides us with a good opportunity to examine his foreign policy attitude and contrast it with the views of one of America’s most courageous war-time presidents — Harry S. Truman. This exercise has three steps: a look at Obama’s thought, a briefer summary of Truman’s views, and then a comparison of the two.
A Study in Scarlet Letters
California has long been an incubator for liberal ideas and a harbinger of the policy and cultural fights that are on the horizon. Lawmakers on the Left Coast are making clear that the conquest of public education is not enough. As public higher-ed institutions have been systematically stripped of any content, policies, or people who have anything to do with traditional values or religious faith, now it’s the *religious* schools which must be subjugated. While President Obama’s recent bathroom directive threatens all schools, at all levels of the educational continuum who receive Title IX funding, a new California bill threatens to bully religious universities into, well, not being so religious.

The Agony of the Trump Endorsers
The astonishing spectacle of a speaker of the House not endorsing a presidential nominee of his own party has been supplanted by the astonishing spectacle of a speaker of the House declaring that the nominee he endorsed said something racist. Paul Ryan endorsed Donald Trump just in time for the Gonzalo Curiel furor. Ryan unloaded on Trump’s attack on the judge’s heritage — “the textbook definition of a racist comment” — while continuing to back the mogul, in either the most awkward denunciation or the most awkward support ever, or perhaps both.
