Lower and Simplify Taxes!
It's that joyous time of year: income tax time. So I spend time with my accountant. I don't want to see him, but I must. I could not do what he's doing. The tax code has grown so complex that today most Americans hire someone to do their taxes. For the money I pay my accountant, I could get a hundred massages. I could buy a fancy motorcycle. I could take a cruise ship to Venice and back. Better yet, I could do some good in the world. I could pay for two Habitat for Humanity homes or help three kids escape government schools by paying their tuition at a good Catholic school. What a shame that I pay my accountant instead.

Tea Party Maligned
There are only a few things that make me truly angry. Lies about the innocent are chief among them. The decent, hard-working, freedom-loving Americans who dare to raise their voices in protest against injustice are my heroes. And it makes me nauseas when they are maligned by those who seek to control them – the very ones whose policies they are protesting. No one likes a spoiled brat. The national leaders who just rammed socialist health care mandates down our throats and many of their compatriots in the liberal media have revealed their selfish, bratty, bully, true selves as they have unloaded a barrage of attacks on the courageous tea party activists around the nation.

Obamacare Will Be at Center of High Court Hearing
The retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens means that in coming months we'll have another hearing on a Supreme Court nominee. But it's not likely to be the sort of hearing we got used to in the two decades after Edward Kennedy declared war on Robert Bork in 1987. Nomination fights in those years centered on the issue of abortion. Many Republicans hoped and most Democrats feared that Republican nominees would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Would Goodwin Liu Sink the Left-Leaning 9th Circuit?
There are two ways the Senate can approach a president's judicial nominees -- and specifically President Barack Obama's nomination of University of California, Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in San Francisco. One: "We had an election. A Democrat won. And the president can pick who he likes." To wit: Liu -- a Rhodes scholar and graduate of Stanford and Oxford universities and Yale Law School who clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- is highly qualified. Republicans should not use delay tactics and the filibuster to thwart a full-Senate up-or-down vote on Liu.

It's Time to Stop the Bleeding
Until Glenn Beck set me straight, I naturally assumed that people who worked in the private sector earned more money than those who worked for the government. It only seemed logical that those who settled for security rather than pursue careers in the riskier, more competitive, real world, earned less. So once again, logic gets worked over like a conservative trying to get past SEIU and Black Panther goons in order to vote.
