Take the terms settled as of last Thursday, and send in new negotiators to discuss the remaining issues — or at least agree to disagree until the scheduled USMCA review. Note that the U.S. is desperate for cash, and so is Canada under the Liberal Party. Tariffs are easier to raise than other taxes because the other country can be blamed instead of your own party. Is that the real deal here?” —Minnesota
“Nate Jackson's piece on the tariff situation between Canada and the U.S. was excellent. Two points: 1. Canada has literally been ripping off the U.S. for 40-50 years, and Trump should demand an end to this. 2. The new items that the U.S. is requesting tariffs on should be balanced and conducive to both sides. I’m thinking the Canadian and American heads of state should not be involved in the specific negotiations; let other team members resolve the issue. “Current laws for tracking and surveillance of individuals generally require warrants. Requiring that for Flock cameras renders them mostly useless. One compromise is to require identity information to be blurred on display unless a warrant is presented to enable full access to specific scenes, and to allow access only to those with a file-specific passkey provided to the court issuing the warrant. If the Flock AI suspects an offense, the relevant video (still with blurred faces and plates) can be sent to the subscribing department having jurisdiction for review and action. The one exception would be individuals already entered as having an outstanding arrest or tracking warrant. Police should keep in mind that the system has made errors resulting in wrongful detention, and should take suitable procedural precautions.” —Minnesota
“LEOs have access to dashcam/bodycam footage review relevant to their shift; the public can only access the data relevant to their case if they specifically submit a subpoena for it. Flock cam access should be handled the same way. Instead of allowing any LEOs to run open-ended queries, they should be required to link their searches to specific case numbers they explicitly have access to, along with audits that can identify unauthorized access. This needs to be done, especially in an era where government failures and excesses at all levels have compromised credibility and fractured public trust.” —Oklahoma

“Clancy's agency in this morbid tragedy is evident for all to see: taking an endless stream of psychiatric drugs, putting blind trust in doctors to adjust her drug cocktail, checking herself out of the hospital, etc. The insanity defense has been concocted to absolve criminals of culpability and to give power and credence to psychiatrists who do not deserve it. This woman acted with premeditation and, while clearly troubled, nevertheless must face the just penalty for her murderous actions.” —New Jersey
