The Democratic Socialists of America might be taking over the Democrat Party, but one thing hasn’t changed — Democrats are still trying to enslave an African American.
Elon Musk is a native of South Africa who became a U.S. citizen in 2002. And Democrats are starting to say out loud that they might nationalize one or more of Musk’s companies, specifically as punishment for what George Orwell called thoughtcrime in 1984. I’ll come back to that in a moment.
First, let’s talk about why Democrats feel this way. In 2022, Musk inconveniently pointed out that Democrats are becoming more radical, not Republicans, which he explained was why he no longer identified as a center-left liberal. In fact, he switched to the Republican Party, and he fought against what he called the “woke mind virus.”
Then Musk bought Twitter and exposed the social media speech suppression racketeers.
That was all bad enough, but Democrats will never forgive Musk for helping reelect Donald Trump and then heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Cutting waste, fraud, and abuse from government caused many leftists to lose what little was left of their minds. In fact, it evidently made Teslas a “legitimate” target for vandalism. Who knew that leftists would ever hate electric vehicles?
In June of this year, Musk became the world’s first trillionaire. Democrats loathed him when he was merely a hundred-billionaire, so more wealth meant more outrage.
Democrats hate Musk because he doesn’t use all that money to support their causes — and he uses the tax code they wrote to pay less.
So, back to the new threats.
It’s starting with a couple of alumni of Bill Clinton’s and Barack Obama’s administrations. Susan Rice, who served as Obama’s UN ambassador, warned any corporations that decided to “take a knee to Trump” that “it’s not going to end well for them.”
“If these corporations think that the Democrats, when they come back in power, are going to play by the old rules ... they’ve got another thing coming,” Rice said. “There will be an accountability agenda,” she added. “This is not going to be an instance of forgive and forget.”
Surely, Musk is at the top of Rice’s list.
He’s certainly at the top for former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who also served as an economic adviser for Obama. “We’ve got to defund Musk,” Reich insisted recently. He claims to be worried about taxpayer dollars and power accumulation, but that’s not how I read what he said:
Democrats ought to [start] ... laying the groundwork for nationalizing Starlink and SpaceX. Nationalize it. It should be a public corporation. We should not ever have that kind of power in one person’s hands — one private person’s hands.
Read that last phrase again, and you’ll understand his game. Democrats are increasingly pushing socialism, and they do want it centralized under a Democrat president.
But this is also personal animosity. “One of the things [congressional Democrats] are going to be doing,” says Reich, “is focusing on Elon Musk. He’s really going to be targeted.”
Like all socialists, Reich blames Musk for the necessity of these measures. “This is Exhibit A in terms of the billionaire takeover of America. This is the oligarchic problem. ... Musk represents the power of oligarchy in America over democracy.”
The proletariat should rise up (via government thugs) and take out the oligarchs.
These aren’t just a couple of old Democrat has-beens trying to get views on podcasts. Several influential thinkers have also called for nationalization — see here, here, here, and here. Worse, last week, Politico reported:
Democrats have long eyed investigating the world’s richest man and the GOP’s top donor. They may get their chance if they win back congressional power in November, and senior members are mulling how a range of panels could target Musk and a huge swath of his businesses.
Maybe Democrats and their Leftmedia allies are merely saber-rattling to motivate turnout in this election. Or maybe they’re actually socialists who believe in government ownership of the means of production, and Musk represents a convenient chance to make an example of a “villain.”
Whatever the case, threatening to nationalize companies — especially when it’s specifically because they’re owned by a man you don’t like — is socialist, un-American, and an egregious violation of the Fifth Amendment. But that’s the mainstream Democrat philosophy today. They view the Constitution as an obstacle, successful entrepreneurs as the enemy, America as fundamentally broken and unfair, and an all-powerful Democrat-run government as the solution to everything.
