Just go ahead and strike Syria without Congress’ authorization; it would save the president a lot of heartache. At least that’s what Senator John McCain opined Wednesday as he continues to push for military action in Syria.

First, he argues, it’s not like the president would be punished for defying Congress. “[Republicans are] not going to impeach the president,” he told reporters. “They’re not that crazy.”

This coming from the man who warned Obama against putting boots on the ground lest the commander in chief wants to face impeachment.

Secondly, McCain believes that Obama would have a better argument for acting on Syria without Congress’ approval, considering he’d have a good excuse and all… “If [Obama] launched an attack on Syria without the endorsement of Congress, it would be vastly more complicated if Congress had already acted,” he argues. “If he acted without the agreement of Congress, you could make the argument before the resolution was passed … that he is acting as other presidents have.”

You can’t fix stupid.
