And he wanted to plead guilty.

Oct. 7, 2013

The trial to convict Nidal Hasan for the 2009 Fort Hood massacre, in which he yelled, “Allahu Akbar” and opened fire on his fellow soldiers, killing 13 and an unborn child and wounding 32, cost the Army nearly $5 million to prosecute. And Hasan wanted to plead guilty.

Criminal prosecution for “workplace violence”: $5 million.

One 62-grain 5.56mm round: $1.15 (price may vary).
