O’Care Hits 3% of Target
Fewer than 50K enroll through federal exchange.
The Tennessean notes that “Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee … plans to send about 66,000 letters to consumers over the next year informing them that they will have to choose another policy.” This is greater than the total number of people who have successful enrolled for insurance through Healthcare.gov. According to the Wall Street Journal, “Fewer than 50,000 people had successfully navigated the troubled federal health-care website and enrolled in private insurance plans as of last week, two people familiar with the matter said, citing internal government data.” This falls far short “of the Obama administration’s target of 500,000 enrollees for October.” Additionally, “12 of the 14 states that are running their own exchanges have tallied roughly 49,000 enrollees, excluding most Medicaid beneficiaries, according to a report released Monday by Avalere Health, a consulting firm.” All said, only about 100,000 individuals have joined state and federal exchanges.
