Obama’s Bad Economy
Don’t cut unemployment benefits at Christmas!
Barack Obama pronounced one of his biggest economic priorities is not in the budget agreement passed by the House Friday: “One element that’s not in this budget that needs to be passed right away is UI – unemployment insurance. You’ve got potentially 1.3 million people who, during Christmastime, are going to lose their unemployment benefits, at a time when it’s still very difficult for a lot of folks to find a job. … In fact, what we know is the economists have said failing to extend unemployment benefits is going to have a drag on economic growth for next year.” It absolutely will be difficult for those who lose benefits at this time – or any time – of year. But far more than paying people not to work, what will get the economy going again is removing obstacles like ObamaCare that actually do create a drag on economic growth.
