‘Be Suspicious of Gov’t Power’
Surprising statement from FBI director.
A conservative sentiment was expressed this week by an unlikely source: FBI director James Comey. “I believe people should be suspicious of government power,” Comey testified. “I am. I think this country was founded by people who were worried about government power so they divided it among three branches.” Indeed. As James Madison write in 1788, “An elective despotism was not the government we fought for; but one in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among the several bodies of magistracy as that no one could transcend their legal limits without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.” More…
