Prayers for Peace
Francis facilitates prayer service at Vatican.
Secretary of State John Kerry’s effort to bring peace between Israel and her enemies ended in a hilarious bag of fail a month ago. Now, a “higher” power is stepping in. Pope Francis invited Israeli and Palestinian leaders to a prayer meeting at the Vatican where the pope stressed the commonality between Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Francis described the event to the Associated Press as a pause in the political negotiations. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s secretary of state, said, “Prayer has a political strength that we maybe don’t even realize and should be exploited to the full. Prayer has the ability to transform hearts, and thus to transform history.” While prayer without action will do nothing for the embittered countries, prayer may break through where years of talking, terrorism and war could not.
