A Dishonorable Academic Career
Sen. John Walsh (D-MT) was one of the Democrat Party’s most visible war heroes (John Kerry doesn’t count). But now, a closer look at the senator’s thesis from the United States Army War College shows Walsh plagiarized heavily from sources available on the Internet. The New York Times reports, “Most strikingly, the six recommendations Mr. Walsh laid out at the conclusion of his 14-page paper, titled ‘The Case for Democracy as a Long Term National Strategy,’ are taken nearly word-for-word without attribution from a Carnegie Endowment for International Peace document on the same topic.” Walsh has said, “I didn’t do anything intentional here,” and his staffers said the plagiarism came when Walsh was “going through a difficult period.” The Army War College, which graduated the likes of Dwight Eisenhower, said it would re-examine the paper. If Walsh is found guilty, the college could strip him of his degree and scrape his name from the bronze plaque the college erected containing the names of all the graduates. Ouch. More…
