Sen. Sanders Says Corporations Aren’t Loyal to Veterans
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) slammed Burger King’s tax inversion deal Tuesday, echoing Barack Obama’s claim that such moves are “unpatriotic.” Sanders told CNN, “I think where the American people get really, really angry is that we have families that are sending kids off to war, these kids get killed, they come home wounded – and then you have corporations where we’re seeing corporate profits at an all-time high.” He added, “Many of these corporations have absolutely no loyalty to the people of the United States or to our government.” Our loyalty should not be to the federal government per se, but rather, the Constitution and Rule of Law. The government is fostering this behavior thanks to the U.S. corporate tax, which sits at nearly 40% – the highest in the world. This stifles economic growth. If the government had our best interests at heart, it would encourage job growth here at home by dissolving the corporate tax. Meanwhile, try explaining loyalty to the many veterans who have suffered at the hands of the VA.
