Congress Passes Bill to Force Obama to Deal With Russians

Last week, Congress passed a bill that would, in part, require the Obama administration to face the violations Russia has committed with impunity against the 1987 nuclear treaty. The State Department said in July Russia was breaking the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty by keeping, testing and manufacturing missiles with a range of 500 to 5,500 kilometers, but Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama would rather ignore such threats to world security. This bill would change that. “The bill calls for the report on the INF violation to be produced in 90 days after the bill is enacted into law and to include an assessment of the effect of the treaty breach,” The Washington Free Beacon reports. “The INF arms violation report also is required to include a description of how President Obama plans to resolve the cheating, including actions already taken, and any further actions planned. It also would include any plans to engage the Russians in diplomatic talks aimed at brining Moscow back into compliance.” With the military being drawn down and turned into a testing ground on the Obama administration’s progressive policies, the last thing Obama wants is a crisis where he needs the military to have a show of actual force.
