Now That We Have Cheap Oil, Left Wants More Tax
Leave it to the Left to make good news an excuse to smack more taxes on the American economy. Lawrence Summers, former Treasury Secretary for Bill Clinton turned-adviser to Barack Obama, took to the pages of The Washington Post to argue for the carbon tax. Why? Because the price of oil is low, of course, and consumers – who are enjoying low prices at the pump – can afford it. “Progressives who are most concerned about climate change should rally to a carbon tax,” Summers wrote. “Conservatives who believe in the power of markets should favor carbon taxes on market principles. And Americans who want to see their country lead on the energy and climate issues that are crucial to the world this century should want to be in the vanguard on carbon taxes. Now is the time.” In short, Summers is saying the government should control the economy because big government and the environment are ultimate goals. He ignores how more taxes will hamper the efforts of pizza delivery places, soccer moms and long-haul drivers. More…
