City Forced to Remove Soldier Statue

The City of King, North Carolina, removed a statue of American soldier kneeling before a cross-shaped gravestone because the Americans United for Separation of Church and State sued the town. Instead of taking the fight to court – which could cost the town $2 million – King settled with the atheist activists for a half-million dollars. And the local veteran who originally complained? He got $1. After the atheist group rode into town and collected its money, City Councilman Wesley Carter told a local newspaper, “I feel this city has been sabotaged and bullied by folks who don’t believe in what this community stands for. I feel like we have been pressured by insurance companies and attorneys who have never been to King. They don’t know what we are about and what this community stands for.” Besides, the image of a soldier kneeling before the grave of a fallen comrade is not symbolic, but something that happens all the time.
