SCOTUS Upholds Wisconsin’s Voter ID Law

A Wisconsin election two weeks away will be the last time Wisconsin voters go to the voting booths without some sort of identification. When the American Civil Liberties Union attempted to challenge a recent law that mandated voter ID, the Supreme Court affirmed a lower court ruling by refusing to hear the case Monday. In a statement, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel said, “Absentee ballots are already in the hands of voters, therefore, the law cannot be implemented for the April 7 election. The Voter ID law will be in place for future elections – this decision is final.” SCOTUS’s actions on the matter add to the battery of court cases supporting the conservative arguments for voter ID, namely that it prevents voter fraud and, therefore, preserves the integrity of elections.
