Ferguson Protesters Listed as ‘World’s Greatest Leaders’
Fortune Magazine’s list of the top 50 greatest leaders in the world is… unusual. Absent from the list are the likes of Vladimir Putin or even Barack Obama (we’re guessing the new politician shine has worn off by now). But two Ferguson protesters who run an online newsletter that has 15,000 readers made the list. Johnetta Elzie and DeRay McKesson shared the number 11 spot for their involvement in the Ferguson protests. Fortune explained its reasoning in choosing the people that graced their top 50 list: “To make this roster, it was not enough to be brilliant, admirable, or even supremely powerful … We set out to find singular leaders with vision who moved others to act as well, and who brought their followers with them on a shared quest. We looked for effectiveness and commitment and for the courage to pioneer.” While the magazine tries to find examples of nontraditional leadership, pop star Taylor Swift comes in at number six, for what it’s worth.
