If nothing else, at least this can be said of proud socialist and Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders: He’s not afraid to speak his mind, no matter how outrageous his views may be. Speaking with CNBC’s John Harwood, the Vermont senator pointed out, “If my memory is correct, when radical socialist Dwight D. Eisenhower was president, the highest marginal tax rate was something like 90 percent.” When asked, “When you think about 90 percent, you don’t think that’s obviously too high?” Bernie bluntly responded, “No. That’s not 90 percent of your income, you know? That’s the marginal.” He added, “I’m sure you have some really right-wing nut types, but I’m not sure that every very wealthy person feels that it’s the worst thing in the world for them to pay more in taxes, to be honest with you.” That may be true, but how many of them trust the government to spend that money wisely? Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw writes, “A ninety percent tax rate. Think about that for a moment. Even the worst tax and spenders in the mainstream of the Democrat Party would never say that aloud, but Bernie Sanders at least can boast of the virtue of honesty.” Interesting, isn’t it? Hillary Clinton, who is so secretive that she unlawfully used a private sever for email correspondence as secretary of state and then destroyed potential evidence of wrongdoing, is pretty much guaranteed the Democrat nomination, while Sanders, who outright admits he wants a 90% marginal tax rate — and what Democrat doesn’t want higher tax rates on “the wealthy”? — will gain little more than name recognition.
