Regarding the indictment of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, the Democrat’s silence is deafening. It is notable that the alleged relationship Hastert was trying to cover up occurred before he entered office and that the alleged hush money was paid after he left office – presumably to protect his considerable income as a lobbyist. It is also notable that the federal charges against Hastert are not related to nature of the relationship, but for lying to the FBI about what he did with cash withdrawals, and attempting to structure cash withdrawals to avoid the $10,000 threshold. But what is most notable is that Obama and company are remaining silent on the matter – “Nobody here derives any pleasure from reading about the former Speaker’s legal troubles,” says Obama’s spokesman, Josh Earnest. They may appear to be taking the high road by not condemning Hastert, but the real reason Democrats are holding fire is that they support such relationships and do not want to offend their very vocal homosexual constituency. And a footnote: Recall if you will that former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat who made payoffs to cover up sexual improprieties while he as in office, wasn’t charged with evading the $10,000 rule.
