The Reverend Hillary Clinton?

The defeated presidential contender has reportedly found religion — again — and she wants to start preaching.

“Hillary Clinton wants to preach. That’s what she told Bill Shillady, her longtime pastor, at a recent photo shoot for his new book about the daily devotionals he sent her during the 2016 campaign.” Thus begins a fawning report in The Atlantic about the latest aspirations of a colossally failed presidential candidate. The story goes on to explain in sycophantic terms how much faith has influenced Clinton throughout her life. In fact, Atlantic religion reporter Emma Green says, Shillady’s book “offers a rare window into the way Scripture appears to have shaped Clinton on the campaign trail — as it has throughout her life.” Clinton loves people so much and cares about the poor so thoroughly, we’re told, that her only mistake seems to be hiding her light under a bushel in public life. Green laments that this secrecy may have backfired because “nearly half of Americans described Clinton as not very or at all religious or said they didn’t know what her religion was.” How deplorable of us.

“Hillary finds it hard to talk about religion a lot,” observed Bill Clinton’s press secretary, Mike McCurry. She “comes from the Methodist tradition, which, like many more liberal, mainstream Protestant denominations, is a little more buttoned up.” Her tradition is also one that exploits gospel teachings about the poor for the gain of government power.

In any case, Shillady says, “I think her faith is stronger” since the election. “I haven’t noticed anything different, except that I think she is more relaxed than I’ve ever seen her.” And Green coos, “Maybe after all these years of hard-scrabble politics, Clinton is finally becoming a more straightforward version of herself: a woman whose fondest ambition is teaching scripture in church.”

We can’t judge the condition of Clinton’s soul, only the fruit she bears. And it’s little but cynicism, entitlement, envy, bitterness and loads of blaming others for her failure — not exactly the Fruits of the Spirit. As for this preaching bug she supposedly has, we think perhaps she’s trying to upstage prosperity gospel huckster Creflo Dollar. After all, his seminal work, “You’re Supposed to Be Wealthy,” speaks right to Hillary’s heart. If anyone knows how to make a few (hundred thousand) bucks off a speech and translate that into private jets and lavish living, it’s Clinton and Creflo.
